Muscat, Feb 1: The Organizing Committee of Mangalorean Catholic Centre of the Parish (MCCP – Sts. Peter and Paul Church – Ruwi) is all set to present one of the most exciting events of this year for its members and their families.
The event is rightly named as Mangalorean Day - 2007. As per the official release of MCCP, this annual event of fun and games will be held on Friday, February 9, 2007 at the Oman Sports Club Grounds – Al Khuwair. The registration for the event will commence at 11.30 am at the entrance of the Oman Sports Club Grounds and the programme will begin immediately after the registration.
“ As we, Konkani speaking Mangaloreans in and arround Muscat, know that ‘Mangalorean Day’ is one of the most exciting event of MCCP’s calendar,” says ever smiling and energetic Flavia Menezes, the current sports secretary of MCCP and active member of the organizing committee, “ and we, the members of the organizing committee with the help of many sponsors and supporters, have formulated an exciting event for our members and their children with loads of fun and many prizes. The huge green ground of Oman Sports Club – Al Khuwair is an ideal place for this kind of event and it will be traditionally decorated. Right now, we are enjoying fantastic weather in Oman, which will certainly bring great exciting mood among the crowd. We are fully confident that our members will greatly enjoy each and every item of the day and every moment of the program. We request all the members to be present right on time and thoroughly participate in the fun filled entertaining event”
Jerald Mascarenhas, current Sports Events Coordinator has moulded his heart and soul into the program and its planning. Indicating the program timings and highlighting the special excitements of the day, Jerald told Daijiworld.com, Muscat team, “ Thea dis sorvank xhushi korunk ami yojan kelam, lanank tosem vodank. (We have planned to please every one, young and old). The event surely will be a great hit as we have planned for lots of entertainment for all age groups. Children will be specially taken care of with numerous of fun filled events, prizes, gifts and enthralling games. Lots of exciting gifts and prizes arranged for the group games and spot games altogether. Moreover, we are bringing some scintillating music by a famous DJ of Muscat to inspire our members to dance and enjoy.”
The event will have some of the traditional games of Mangalore, like breaking coconuts, Mosaru Kudike (Breaking the hanging pot by forming human pyramid), banana race, Mudo Race (Traditional Bundle of Rice). A renowned DJ will be present to fill the atmosphere with melody. Says Jerald, “We are planning to entertain our people with a Pili Vesha (Vaagancho ves – Traditional Tiger Dance). Traditional lunch prepared by a renowned caterer of Muscat and evening snacks also will be served.”
The man behind the whole show is vibrant and inspiring leader of the Sports and Finance Committees, Suraj Rebello.
