M'luru: Sports ministry to seek Govt grant for Athletics Fed Cup 2015

Mangaluru, Mar 3: “Department of Youth Service and Sports will seek Rs one crore from Chief minister under special grant to host the Athletics Federation Cup-2015”, said state minister for Fisheries, youth service and sports, Abayachandra Jain.

He was addressing the press on Tuesday, March 3 at the first preparatory meeting for Athletics Federation Cup-2015 which is scheduled to be held in Dakshina Kannada for the first time from May 1 to May 4 at Mangala Stadium.

He also suggested to install temporary flood lights for the event.

Speaking about the standard of sports materials for the event, Jain said, “Department of Youth Service and Sports will purchase all standard sports materials for the event without compromising with quality”.

He also asked district administration to hold next meeting with various companies and institutions in the district to raise fund for the event.

Speaking about synthetic track in Mangala stadium, he said, “The track is made strictly for the use of athletes and not for public to walk on it. Public should understand this and cooperate with the managing committee”. He asked the stadium committee members to monitors this.

Replying to the sports minister, Mayor demanded to arrange a walking path for the public. Earlier, public had demanded a walking path in the stadium.
Deputy Commissioner AB Ibrahim said, “The budget for Athletics Federation Cup-2015 will be Rs 1.75 crore. Fifteen committees will be formed for the smooth functioning of the event. Organizing committee will be formed under the chairmanship of district in-charge-minister. CM and Karnataka state Athletics Federation president Dr Parameshwar will be patrons”.

District in-charge minister, B Ramanath Rai honoured athlete Geetha Bhai former power lifter with a cheque of Rs 50,000 on the occasion. The department of Youth Service and Sports and minister, Abayachandra Jain assured her of a job in Mangala stadium.

Mayor Mahabala Marla assured MCC’s support for the event and said that MCC will provide considerable budget for the event.
