Kundapur, Mar 4: A motor bike rider was killed on Tuesday March 3 night after being knocked down by a vehicle on Mullikatte-Alur Road on railway over-bridge near Haklady in the taluk. The deceased has been identified as Mahesh Acharya (30) from Kundabarandadi. It is suspected that a pick-up truck was the killer vehicle in this accident.

Acharya was going to his home from Mullikatte when the accident occurred. The accident was so severe that the entire body including face of the victim had been crushed and mutilated beyond recognition. A detailed examination lasting over 30 minutes including verification was documents was needed to confirm the identification.

The killer vehicle sped away after knocking down and killing Acharya, who worked as carpenter. The motor bike also was found to have been badly mangled under the weight of the wheels of the heavy vehicle. Gangolli police visited the spot and registered a case.

In another accident, Ganesh Devadiga (30) from Adikekodlu village near Vandse sustained serious injuries in the accident. He was admitted into a hospital here in critical condition. Ganesh was moving towards Vandse from Adikekodlu on his motor bike on Tuesday night on Kollur Road, when a tipper coming from the direction of Vandse at high speed hit him near the house of taluk panchayat member, Manjaiah Shetty. Devadiga, who was thrown to some distance away because of the impact of the accident, suffered serious injuries to his head, and was admitted into a hospital in Udupi. It is gathered that a pillion rider was also with Devadiga, and he too sustained some injuries.

The villagers say that the spots where these two accidents took place have witnessed a number of accidents in the recent past. Hence, they have demanded for display of warning signs declaring them to be accident zones.
