Udupi: LPG cylinder leak in flat - fire inflicts loss of Rs 4 lac

Udupi, Mar 4: After fire engulfed a flat located in the first floor of an apartments complex opposite petrol bunk in Kinnimulky here on Tuesday March 3 morning, various things including furniture were burnt down. As no one was inside the apartment at the time of the accident, no one was injured or killed.






A family belonging to P Suresh Kumar lives in the said flat owned by Antony Suvaris. The family members had closed the LPG cylinder valve after supper on Monday. Early morning on Tuesday, the members had left home to attend a puja programme after lighting a lamp in the puja room.

In the meanwhile, gas from the cylinder leaked and got accumulated in the house and at around 9 am, a blast was heard, which sent the door flying and window pane broken. Fire raged in bedroom, kitchen, and hall, burning down everything including two beds, furniture, things inside the kitchen etc.

People living in adjacent flats ran to check after hearing the loud sound, and immediately called the fire brigade. The fire brigade personnel succeeded in extinguishing the fire.

The loss estimated in this fire has been put at Rs 4 lac. As no one was home at the time, a possible catastrophe was averted.
