Dubai: USWAS Annual Feast  - an Event of Joy and Feeling at Home

Dubai, Feb 2: The parishioners of Shirva currently residing in the UAE along with their friends and well-wishers spent an evening at Al Nasr Leisureland Poolside on Thursday Feb 1 with a celebration of their annual feast, which was celebrated back home in Shirva on Wednesday, January 31.

Lovely weather prevailing around the UAE got everyone into a real mood for enjoyment, brought about by good organization, tasteful selection of songs and comedy, all put together, gave a perfect touch to the feast celebration.

Guest artistes, Shirva's very own trumpet maestro Adrian Gomes and Rony D'Cunha from Kuwait were the centre of attraction. If their participation gave professionalism to the event, Jodi No. 1 of UAE Andrea and Avinash brought some spectacular moments to dance-lovers. Ocean Kids, led by Vinod Sequira,dominated the dance stage. But Asha Mabel, at one time's Mandd Sobhann singing sensation (Asha Rego), gave some classic songs to the crowd, to show how talented Shirva parishioners are and still having spread around the Gulf they did not forget their talents and mother-tongue. Canute Mathias and Joy, the other two local boys, performed their best to entertain the gathering.





Altogether it was an evening to meet Shirva parishioners as well their well-wishers, family and friends at one place and enjoy the quality and variety of entertainment provided by USWAS, which is indeed a breath of the Shirva parishioners in the UAE




 

Earlier, Ivan Matthias president of USWAS welcomed the audience. In his speech he has thanked committee members who had worked day and night to make this important event possible on this day.

Sponsors of the event were felicitated. In an effort to encourage young talents of Shirva parishioners residing in UAE, USWAS honoured





Lilly Tauro (Teacher) from Shirva was the guest of honour. Manoj Menezes, one of the founder members compered the felicitation programme.

Andrea D`Souza who has carried the Shirva flag high through her mercurious dance performance in Jodi No. 1 was presented the 'Nachpa Mor' (Dancing Peacock) award, Canute Mathias who has been rendering service in Konkani music, specially in UAE through his band and singing talents, was awarded 'Sangeet Kunvor' . Adrian Gomes, the super maestro in trumpet, and very popular music master from Kuwait, was honoured as 'Sangeet Vazantra Shilpi'.

USWAS also felicitated Rajesh Sequiera, who has been instrumental in initiating Dubai -Mangalore direct flight service through his efforts. He was presentedmemento in appreciation of his community service.

Two senior members of USWAS, Ambrose Menezes and Gabriel Dsouza, received special appreciation for their support and encouragement to the association and parish.

Little dancers Micol and Clean, Shelwin, Lisha Caren, Vanessa, Gavin , Delvina and Cema danced to the tune of some beautiful Hindi numbers.



Ronald Olivera, well-known compere successfully handled yet another grand event through his professional touch. Merline Castelino accompanised in compering other stage programme

The very well-organized programme ended around 2.30 am.





Shirva parishioners' association came into existence in the year of 2003. Franky D`Souza, a popular restaurateur (Shezan Restaurant and Frank Caterers Karama)  initiated the association to bring parishioners under one umbrella. Ever since, the association has been rendering yeoman's service to the parishioners as well as to the entire society in large.
