Mangaluru, Mar 4: Dakshina Kannada district Retired Police Officers’ Welfare Association (DKRPOWA) protested in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office on Wednesday, March 4 in Mangaluru for not fulfilling their needs.

Addressing the protestors, DKRPOWA president B J Bhandary said, "Soldiers are protecting us from the terrorists in the borders and for them there are welfare schemes and there is a canteen in city to meet their needs. Retired soldiers also get all facilities. But it is regrettable that the retired police are deprived of these benefits."

"For the welfare of the police, Karnataka Government made Police Welfare Fund act in 1975 and has made lot of changes to the act. It has introduced arogya bhagya for the police and from this fund, they can avail the canteen facility also. But for the retired police it is just a dream. The promise which was made by the chief minister, DG and IGP's long before are still a promise only and no medical benefit is given for us." he added.

"The funeral grant payable to the retired police should be paid to the dependants at the time of the death of the pensioners. We need the Government to bring changes to the act of 1975 and grant us the medical benefits." he demanded.

A memorandum was submitted to the government through deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim.

Anusuya, Manjunath Rai, V Mohammed, Narayan, P K Mohammed, M Sharif and others were also present on this occasion.

Prior to the protest, a rally was held from the NGO hall to DC office.
