Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (HB)

Udupi, Mar 5: A youth who was reportedly suffering from depression from the past one year ended his life at his relative's house at Bankerkatte, Kalmady here on the evening of Wednesday March 4.

Shashikant Salian (22) hanged himself at his cousin Bharat Kunder's house.

It is learnt that Shashikant's father Bhaskar Salian died many years ago while his mother Sushila passed away about 5 or 6 years ago. Since then, Shashikant has been staying with his aunt at Kalmady.

Shashikant's brother Arvind stays in Bengaluru, sources said.

On Wednesday, the family members were at their workplaces the entire day. When Bharat and his mother returned home late in the evening, they found him hanging from the fan in his room.

Sources said that Shashikant had studied up till 9th standard after which he dropped out from school and took up fishing as an occupation. His father too had been a fisherman.

About a year ago, he gave up fishing and was at home most of the time. Unemployment coupled with poor financial condition had pushed him to into depression, and he had also undergone treatment in a hospital for a while, sources said.

Malpe police have registered a case.

You are correct, he looked very depressed in the picture.

The pain of depression is too hard to explain, some of the people suffering from depression will not reveal that to anybody but try to hide that.

Only those people who have suffered seasonal and chronic depression can understand the severe pain of depression and the bottom down spirit of hopelessness then they will not see anything worth living and take off their lives.

I feel pity for the life of this young Boy. It could be even his Aunt's Treatment in the absent of his Parents might have led him to take this extreme Step. We never know the cause for his depression. Once the Parents are no more the children prone to end up in Depression as per psychological Researches. May God give him Eternal Peace and Rest.

Losing both parents at a young age resulting in Depression and unemployment has led to the death of this young man. Treatment of Depression must be accompanied with counseling. NGOs / religious groups can take the initiative by tying-up with Psychiatrists and helping the patient on the way to complete recovery.

    Dear Imtiyaz bhai,

he had committed suicide coz he was not well. He was suffering from depression. If he was normal he would be another imtiyaz or shiva, will think over the life, tkae challenges, strive mental balance. Secondly, let us think over what causes depression? apart from genetic cause there are so many causes...a person having had everything/ achieved in life suddenly fall in to depression. so current case is nothing. god forbidden I may be the victim of this. obviously mind will not be under control and carried away by thoughts and actions. Recently asha bhosles daughter committed suicide. Chitra singhs daughter committed suicide... so let us not say without judging the situation "Such a coward act....It was jus life's tests..Suicide was not the solution"
