Criminal petition against Rajinikanth, 'Lingaa' producer

Chennai, March 7 (IANS): A petition has been filed against superstar Rajinikanth and producer Rockline Venkatesh of "Lingaa" in Madras High Court for causing a loss of Rs.21 crore to the government exchequer.

The petition was filed by R. Singaravadivelan of Marina Pictures. He was one of the distributors of "Lingaa".

"Only films with Tamil titles are eligible for exemption of entertainment tax. 'Lingaa' is a Sanskrit word, but using Rajinikanth's influence, producer Venkatesh had gotten an exemption from payment of entertainment tax," Singaravadivelan said in his petition.

He said this has caused a loss of Rs.21 crore.
