Puttur, Mar 8: 'Our political adversaries have been making all out efforts to project the union government as anti-farmer. They are claiming that ammendments brought to Land Acquisition Act and Resettlement Act will benefit big industries to the detriment of farmers. I assure you that our government will never implement any anti-farmer legislations,' said union minister, D V Sadananda Gowda. He also revealed that the national president of BJP has formed a team to hold consultations with farmers on this issue.

He was speaking to media persons here on Saturday March 7 after visiting Lord Mahalingeshwara Temple here and Balnad Sri Dandanayaka Ullalti Daivasthana. Gowda said that already the government has obtained feedback from various parts of the country after holding consultations.

The minister clarified that Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, may bring some minor ammendments in the proposed bills in consultation with Lok Sabha members of different political parties. He stressed that there is no chance of the government harming interests of agriculturists.

DVS claimed that the work of distributing LPG to BPL card holders at subsidised rates was taken up after the Modi government came to power. He ridiculed some political parties for claiming it to be their achievement.

Speaking later at Mangaluru, he said that allowing media persons to enter the jail premises and allowing them to interview a jail inmate was a serious lapse. He said that the union home minister, Rajnath Singh, has said that action would be taken against the erring officials. He also condemned BBC for violating the government's instructions not air the interview.

Gowda promised to hold discussions about developing Shiradi Ghat stretch of the national highway for which only a single tender has been received, with union minister for highways, Nitin Gadkari. He welcomed Maharashtra government's initiative in passing anti cow slaughter legislation. He wanted similar laws to be enacted in other states too. Gowda also disapproved the Congress government's action in withdrawing such a bill introduced by BJP government in Karnataka.
