Mangaluru: SDPI district president assaulted by auto rickshaw drivers

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Mar 8: President of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), Nawaz Ullal, was assaulted by a gang of auto rickshaw drivers near central railway station here on the evening of Saturday March 7. Relating to the incident, the Pandeshwar police have arrested four persons, Sudhakar, Habib, Nagesh, and Ranjith.

Injured Nawaz has got admitted into the Highland Hospital in the city as an inpatient for treatment. He reportedly has suffered serious injuries to his nose.

It is said that the fight arose after a car which Nawaz was driving brushed against a three-wheeler. Nawaz was driving his Alto car from State Bank Circle to a hospital along with his party's state committee member, Jaleel Krishnapura, for inquiring the health of a friend who was admitted in the hospital. An auto rickshaw driver took Nawaz to task, alleging that his car had come in contact with his auto rickshaw on the narrow road leading from Rao and Rao Circle to the petrol bunk.

Nawaz said in his police complaint that a few auto rickshaw drivers followed his car thereafter, intercepted it near the central railway station, attacked him using abusive words, and posed life threat. He said that the gang which attacked him had over ten members.

Pandeshwar police sub-inspector, Shariff, has registered the complaint. Four of the accused have been arrested.

Auto rajas in this part are worst than hooligans, they have a collective group in various junctions, who are immediately summoned through SOS message by the auto raja who is in the midst of an argument mostly due to his high handedness of charging arbitrarily, not downing the meter, etc., these nearly 8-10 of the group assimilate at the spot within minutes and pounce on the victim passenger hurling all shorts of abuses and even getting personal, they would not hesitate to assault if the person looks ordinary or physically weak thus ultimately the poor passenger as to budge and surrender after suffering humiliation, it is the most terrifying experience which I have experienced twice for confronting auto rajas for the sky high demands on fares!!! Jai Mangluru!! Jai Hind!!

RTO/ Police should clarify to the general public, is it ok to the driver getting beaten up by mob if there is an accident?
How can the general public be assured there ill be no accidents . First they have to bear with the petetic roads and junctions and then battle the goons?
Can someone drive with out accidents? We need to get disciplined strict actions has to be taken against this mob like attitude.

Saudis kiss or shake hands, enquire about each other then they turn their attention towards the vehicles involved in the accident. Even the policeman who arrives at the scene does the same.

In India, there will be big arguments and even blows between opposing parties in an accident, unlike in other countries where the police settle the matter.
