Australian detained in Lebanon over links with terror groups

Beirut, March 9 (IANS/EFE): An Australian citizen of Lebanese descent was detained by Lebanese Army intelligence due to a possible link to terrorist organisations.

The suspect, referred to as only T.H., was arrested on Sunday night at his house after a raid by the Lebanese Army in Dahr al-Ain, Koura district, the National News Agency reported on Monday.

The news agency has not provided details or of the arrest, but has only said that the authorities suspect T.H.'s connection to terrorist organisations.

In recent months, thousands of people of different nationalities have been joining the al-Nusra Front, an Al Qaeda affiliate in Syria, or the Islamic State, which has been controlling large territories in Iraq and Syria since proclaiming its caliphate in June.
