Uttar Pradesh tops in AADHAAR generation

Lucknow, March 10 (IANS): Uttar Pradesh has become the leading state in terms of AADHAAR generation, leaving Maharashtra behind, officials said on Tuesday. The AADHAAR generation in Uttar Pradesh has touched 9.17 crore.

State government's periodic instructions to concerned field functionaries to ensure smooth implementation of the project including enrolments of residents and seeding of AADHAAR numbers in the beneficiary database have given the desired strength to the project, Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) officials said.

To accelerate the pace of enrolment in the state, over 4 lakh residents are being enrolled every day with about 9,000 enrolment kits at 2,755 enrolment centres operated by 70 enrolment agencies.

Deputy Director General (DDG), regional office, R.H. Singh told IANS that 872 Permanent Enrolment Centres (PEC) are being operated across the state to facilitate residents not only to enrol for AADHAAR but also to resolve other issues like generation of e-AADHAAR.

"To give impetus to the enrolment process, training and certification examination camps had been organised from December 2014 to February 2015 resulting in successful certification of more than 2,000 operators and supervisors who are joining the workforce so as to boost the enrolment process in the state.

The AADHAAR database is the largest biometric database in the world and as per Government of India's decision, AADHAAR is to be linked to various schemes and initiatives, the official added.
