Four Africans allegedly attacked by mob in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Mar 11 (PTI): Four African nationals were allegedly attacked by a mob at Byrathi here after locals were reportedly "annoyed" with them for creating "nuisance" in the area.

The attack took place when we were returning home, John, an African national said, adding, he has received multiple injuries.

"The mob attacked us around 12:30 am and it continued till 3 am. The incident took place when I and three others were returning home. I was chased and beaten up .... have sustained multiple injuries," he said.

John said they did not know why they were assaulted, even as the police denied any assault in the incident which took place on the intervening night of March 9 and 10 at Byrathi near Kothanur in north-east Bengaluru.

Police, who were initially tight-lipped about the incident, maintained it was a verbal duel which resulted in "incidents of pushing and jostling."

"I was there at the Kothanur police station. I interacted with the African nationals and they told me that it was a minor incident, and there was no attack on them," Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Alok Kumar told PTI.

The Africans do not want to file a case, he added. However, police would take suo motu cognisance of the reported multiple injuries sustained by John and find out whether he suffered those injuries during the attack, Mr Kumar said.

"We will take suo motu cognisance of the alleged injuries sustained by John and find out the truth," he added.

In Goa Africans, particularly Nigerians are kept away by the Locals as most of them are drug addicts and always create disturbance in neighborhood.
In Mangalore & Udupi also some Africans are big nuisance in all colleges where they take admission, because they come to India not studying but for enjoying life as most of them belong to very powerful politicians' family of Africa.

Do not compare these africans with indian abroad. Indians do behave well and follow the law of the land where they reside.
Some of these africans in India are involved in all illegal activities.

Each and every mother says his child is innocent even when he rapes and murder someone. Do not be an advocate of Indians abroad. Go and experience yourself how some Indians (especially North Indians) behave themselves abroad. No one can say that each and everyone from a country is nice. There are people in each country who brings bad name for their mother country. Don't be a blind person but read local news websites abroad and you will find few. Indian newspapers bring only good news from NRIs not when it is bad. When Prabha is brutally we all say it is racist even without any proof and now what stops you to call this incident racist?? Double standard or blind love for Indians like a a mother's love??

It is reported that at mid night they were creating hell about which the locals were fed up. Do not compare this with Australlian incident and try to down grade India. Remember India is mix of races, castes, languages, cultures, religions and so on with least effective and least efficient corrupt system all around. Last but not the least is the most populated country. Imagine any other country with such a situation would have been an utter failed country (look at our neighbor for example). India is still a progressive and peaceful country barring few incidents. Indians' general peaceful nature is also evident by the fact that they are every where around the globe but no where they pose security or law and order problem for the local administrations. So do not degrade India as majority people are peace loving.

    Anna Ramesha,

For me it is not necessary to read the full article. what is written in the article is nothing. In India everywhere nuisance only, and outside India wherever Indians are residing in majority that place is full of nuisance only. That's why this "Gora" people can not tolerate. When you all can not tolerate those handpick number of African people in western countries they are a lot. Still those people does something once in a while you all are writing like anything. That is why always think and write understand.

Ramesh, Anthony said exactly what I thought. We support NRIs blindly because we have blind love. How much patience someone can have when someone creates nuisance? Its just because they belong to the different race, it just becomes racism in your dictionary. You cant defend every Indians abroad because they don't tell you what they did. If you cant handle a handful of Africans here, do you know the how big Indian community living in White majority countries?

Since I reside in Kuwait I (everyone) have to abide by the law and have whatever (limited) freedom we are allowed to enjoy. If found that anyone is having any illegal way of living, surely first punishment and deportation.
Lot's of things go around but not openly. Have you ever heard someone living Gulf country because there is no freedom of speech, social life etc.

To achieve something we are bound sacrifice something but on the longer run all are happy. Good life, savings, foreign education for children and when times come, just migrating to other countries.

Ramesh, the first thing is you have to learn the definition of racism. Second thing is if those Africans not abiding Law, it is not people who should punish them, there is law of land which they have to obey as you said. Every time when Indians attacked abroad, you term it racism then why not this?? You said yourself, Gurudwaras attacked because it resembles Mosque, that means it is mistaken identity not racial attack. If they are attacking mosque, I guess there must be a reason ( I am sure you are clever enough to understand it)

Only those who have suffered at the hands of these Africans can tell the real story. I myself have had such bad experience with African students who were put up in a rented place opposite our new house. They drink more than their capacity and may be use some substance which makes them demons and uncontrollable thereafter. They would create noise, play loud music after drinking, race their cars and bikes with modified exhausts till late in the night, even bang our door whole night and even urinate on our compound wall before the residents said "Enough of Atithi Devobhava" When we went to the police station to complain they brushed it off lightly, but in just one week after the incident we read in the local newspapers that drunk Africans beat up a whole bunch of cops on night duty in another locality who had gone to inquire on a complaint. After that incident of cops getting beaten, there has not been any disturbance from Africans thus far. May be the cops put the Anaconda from the zoos in the wrong places.

I think mob might have lost patience..Africans are famous for creating nuisance wherever they go..Take example of drug smuggling..They are the one who supply cocaine,ganja,hashish..Last week, some tv artists were caught in Cochin while they were having cocaine party..One Nigerian was the main supplier who was beaten very badly by a mob when he was being taken to court..Every month he makes trip to Goa/Mumbai/Kerala and deal with drug addicts..
Some readers have wrongly compared this incidnet with attack & murder of a Bantwal based woman in Australia..She didn't create any nuisance there..She was a IT professional, leaving for home after duty..

When someone was attacked & killed in Australia we go to criticize as racial issue and we demand safety for Indian community.
Yesterday Police misbehaved with some Israeli tourists and now this attack on foreigners. This type of anti-social behavior on foreigner’s surly effect Indian community abroad.
Our people should remember that there are Millions working abroad and remit funds to India.
Let us hope that, this type of ill-treating and assaulting foreign nationals would not have any impact on innocent Indians who work & live in foreign countries.
I feel proud to tell that I am working & living in Kuwait since 1975 and enjoy the service and the benefits which the host country provides us. Give respect and take respect and be thankful to one who provides us.

While they are victims in our country, one of our daughter was a victim in a foreign country recently. What right do we have to seek justice/protection when we don't have the very bliss to offer ?
