Mangaluru, Mar 12: Policemen from Barke station here have succeeded in solving a case relating to the disappearance of a second PU student of a college in the city. The student, who hails from Belagavi, had disappeared after leaving the house where she stayed as paying guest at Bhagavati Nagar here, at 11 am on Sunday March 8.

On the same evening, a person who introduced himself as Gaja, had called the student's mother, who works in a government department in Belagavi, over phone, and conveyed to her that he had kidnapped her daughter. He had also challenged her to stop him if she could.

The police, who had initially registered a missing case, had later turned it into a case of abduction. They traced the whereabouts of the abductor as well as the girl student with the help of mobile tower locator. They went to a lodge in Bengaluru, and brought both of them to the city on Wednesday March 11.

Gaja (28) and the girl student had come to know each other through Facebook about 18 months back. They used to chat with each other. Gaja came to the city on March 8 and went back with the girl in a rented vehicle after extending her the promise of marriage. It is said that Gaja, who worked for a private firm in the past, is unemployed as of now.

During questioning, the police have learnt that Gaja had tricked the minor girl into trusting his promise of marrying her, it is learnt. Barke police sub-inspector, S S Meti, and other police personnel were involved with this operation. The accused is likely to be produced in the court today.
