Mangaluru: Land acquisition case - High court orders Gregory Patrao's eviction

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Mar 12: Gregory Patrao from Kalavaru here had made headlines all over the state after he stood his ground and stoutly protested against the action of the officials who came with the backing of police personnel, razed his house and other things. Although Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) had said that his land had been acquired for the special economic zone, Gregory had carried on the battle singularly.

His defiant stance, strong protest, and stout resolve had attracted a number of leaders and spiritual heads of institutions, who had visited him and offered him support and solace. He had stood his ground, built a temporary shed, and continued to live there.

Gregory had carried on battle through the high court all these five years. The state high court (HC) recently ruled in favour of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL), which was allotted this land for expansion programme. On Wednesday March 11, officials led by KIADB special deputy commissioner, Dase Gowda, evicted Gregory and his family from their land at Kalavaru.

Dase Gowda told media persons that as per the HC order, 14.27 acres of land has been given to MRPL, and the compensation towards the property has already been credited to the bank account of the concerned.

Gregory happens to be the BJP-supported member of Bala gram panchayat. However, when the officials along with police force came to acquire his land, he did not seem to be having anyone's support, eyewitnesses said. Gregory also did not offer resistance to the acquisition this time. Moreover, he had on a previous occasion agreed to vacate the land for KIADB but the court case had continued.

HELLO FRIENDS WE LIVE IN WORLD OF INJUSTICE, TO GET JUSTICE YOU HAVE FIGHT VERY HARD AND DEEP, BUT REWARD IS NOT GUARNTEED, I CAN UNDERSTAND THE EMOTION AND PAIN OF ANY ONE CAUGHT UP THESE SO CALLED SITUATION LAND ACQUITIN FOR DEVELOPMENT BUT LIFE MOVES ON. KIADB IS TOTALLY A CORRUPT ORGANISATION, THEY TRY TO LOOT MY LAND WITHOUT GIVING ANY NOTICES TRY TO DO MINE AND KIADB OFFICIAL TOLD ALL MY THE NEIGHBOURS YOU HAVE TO EVICT YOUR LAND FOR THE COMPANY AND NEVER TALKED ABOUT REHABILITATION AND COMPENSATION, EVENTUALLY ENDED UP GOING TO HIGH COURT. KIAND IS THREATENED US THAT YOU LOT NEVER WIN WITH US. NOW WHO CHECKING THESE GUYS BEHAVIOUR AND ATTITUDE???? NO WONDER FARMER GET DOWN TO THE STREET TO PROTEST. GIVE US FAIR SHARE OF DEMOCRACY,COMPENSATION. A FARMER WORK FROM EARLY MORNING TILL LATE EVENING TILL SUN SET. ITS HARD LIFE AND HARD GAMBLE ONE YEAR YOU HAVE GOOD CROP ANOTHER MAY BE NOT. THESE PEOPLE CORPORATES, POLITICIANS WITH POWER MONEY ONLY CONCERN ABOUT HOW TO FILL POCKETS AND GROWTH. WHAT ABOUT FEELING OF FARMER FROM HIS CHILDHOOD WORK TO PROSPER CANT GET ANYWHERE. SO DEVELOPMENT SHOULD TWO WAY NOT ONLY WAY. WHEN COMPANY OR BUSINESS GROW THEY SHOULD HAVE ETHICS AND ENVIRONMENT RESPONSIBILITY. NOT JUST POLITICIANS AND SHAREHOLDERS. TO GET JUSTICE YOU HAVE TO BANG YOUR HEAD TO THE WALL, MY POINT IS WHY ITS SO HARD. IT SHOULD BE AN AUTOMATIC PROCESS. WHERE COMPANY OR GOVERNMENT SHOULD PROVIDE REHABILITATION WITHOUT FIGHTING FOR YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!

After protracted court battle, the district administration had demolished his house on April 28 last year. Gregory, who undertook a hunger strike in June last, had withdrawn it after the Chief Minister promised to do him justice. As per the orders of the CM, divisional commissioner from Mysore, M V Jayanti, had conducted spot inspection, but her report had stated that there is no other alternative to acquire this land for the project.
    Now why blame the centre?

The present BJP Govt. which came to power by promising the sky for farmers, is slowly, vanquishing the farmer and the land they till will be given on a platter to big, favoured Industrialist etc. who had financed towards expenses needed for pre-election expenses and as donors.
Now they are in power, it is pay back time here as well as many other places, all over India.
The number of farmers having land will dwindle considerably in the next 4 years period.
BJPians should realize and oppose this move by the Govt.

Very sad to read the this news. how an agriculturist suffered due to land acquisition by pvt company through govt machinery. The land acquisition bill recently passed in the parliament take away poor people's land and will given to big industrialist in the name of the development.Every industrialist requires land near airport, sea port and railway for getting maximum profit in their business though easy transportation facility. I suggest the govt should acquire non agricultural land that too from large land owner for industrial development.

Its an anti farmer move by the central govt. If they want to satisfy industrialist or corporate tycoons why they not provide waste land which is not using for agri... and why they want only farmers land...

One can see from this incident, how BJP supports such incident and then let them in a lurch.
In this case, now BJP Government is at the center and this is a Central Project.
Take care when you get support from BJP...
