Mangaluru, Mar 12: Soon after being elected as the new mayor of Mangalore City Corporation, Jacintha Vijay Alfred said that she would give priority to issues related to drinking water, drainage system, women empowerment and housing in the city.

Addressing the media after the mayoral election on Thursday March 12, an elated Jacintha thanked the MCC members for choosing her as the mayor of Mangaluru, especially the two MLAs and MLC.

Jacintha with her husband Vijay

She also remembered the late Blasius D'Souza and said, "I am grateful to Blasius D'Souza for his support. I have been serving MCC for the last 15 years in various departments.

"I also thank Ramanath Rai, Mahabala Maarla, J R Lobo, Mohiuddin Bava and especially Ivan D'Souza for their support. Ivan D'Souza has been like a brother to me and supported me throughout my career."

On her plans for the city, she said, "As mayor, I will give priority to providing clean drinking water, solving issues related to drainage system, and focus on women empowerment and ease rules related to housing in the city. I will respond to the needs of the people, listen to their concerns and protect their rights. I will treat everyone equally and do my work with this motto in mind," she said.

Purushottam Chitrapur thanked all the council members and the elected representatives and said, "We will continue the good work initiated by Mahabala Maarla during his tenure as mayor and do our best to fulfill our responsibilities. I will support the mayor in the overall development of the corporation."

Former mayor Mahabala Maarla congratulated the new mayor and the deputy mayor and said, "Over the past one year, we have brought about so many development works in Mangaluru. I thank the MLAs, MLC and corporators for their support. The past one year was a stepping stone for my political career. I wish all success to the new mayor and the deputy mayor."

Opposition leader in the council Premanand Shetty also congratulated Jacintha and Purushottam and said that Mangaluru faces many challenges which need to be resolved.

Dude, there is nothing to be ashamed of, they win or lose none of your concern. You've done you're part by voting and by paying tax, that's it. What others comment on should be none of you're concern, they put the full name or no, none of you're business.

What a joyful message to read that Ms. Jacintha is our new Mayor of Mangalore, a City that is thriving in all areas of Cultural, Economical, Religious as well as social values. Mangalore will witness greater progress and prosperity under Mayor Jacintha's leadership as well as her
Deputy. Clean water, clean food, clean air and clean environment are some of the essential factors that the new Mayor and her team has to confront. Safety and Security are also increasingly becoming important in these changing times all over the world.

Mangalore has a tremendous scope to progress, and the "buck of progress" stops on Mayor's table.

We have a dynamic Lady Mayor in Houston, Texas who has been at the helm of her power and popularity for the third term. If and when Jacintha visits Houston, Texas, we would certainly try and make the two powerful ladies meet so that they will have lot to learn about each City and how the Cities are run under different conditions and different circumstances. Perhaps it might also be a good idea to propose to the Mayor of Houston to seek ways and means to make Mangalore as a "Sister City" of Houston that will boost the friendly ties of both the dynamic Cities.

Best of luck to you, Mayor Jacintha. As and when we visit Mangalore we would be delighted to meet with you and discuss various matters of mutual interest.

Firstly congrats to the new Mayor & Dy Mayor.
Secondly, since the Mayor is the first citizen of the city it is imperative that she must have an exclusive email address and an exclusive website for interacting with the aam aadmi.
Thirdly as a concerned person, I would like her to look at the email that I have sent a few days ago to the Mangalore MUnicipal Commissioner with copies to the utive Engineer and to the Engineer looking after Pachhanady Bondel (no reply received or contact by any of these persons) regarding the UNPOTABLE and UNFIT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION borewell water that we are being provided with by the MCC when we are paying for treated drinking water for which crores have been borrowed from the ADB for the ENTIRE city (and not only to exclusive areas where VIP's and VVIP's stay).

Lets see if there is going to bea sea change or one will have to move other fora to get a proper and correct solution.
(incidentally, in 2006, we gave a portion of OUR LAND to the MCC to dig a bore well as we were told it was the only suitable place where water table was available in the area.

Congrats to newly elected Both Mayor & Deputy Mayor.

Mr. Jossey, Mr. Oscar Fernandes was National Higway incharge Minister, still you are in Sadaq. They gave the contract to Congi supported corrupt Contractor. Two years contract now become 7 years. Contractor was under bars & when asked during Oscar's visit to Mangalore as a Minster about why you alloted the contractor to him, his reply was funny. He said we did know this company belongs to whom??? That means so big contract they aloted blindly???...What a dongi congi Government......

modi is aggressive in giving false promises and doing U-Turns. a nation cannot develop with talks and contradicting actions.

He is only talk, talk and more talk...His action is as good as Nalin's performance which is .....

P.N: If India is a superpower today it is due to the pro-people and development conscious agenda of Congress and not due to your "4 bacche" and "H@#*m zaade politics".

Not only talk. Starting from his Oath ceremony, world looking us. Earlier no body is bother about india. Now We ourselve have respect. Once America had not given VISA to Modi. Now see U Turn.Modi visited America with full of respect. That person visited india. It is Modi's capacity. Second Swatcha bharat. PM himself cleaned the street. Not only once, so many occasion. Every one followed that irrespective of caste. You do not lister only speech. See his action. Within a short period lot of change. one more thing every department is in one roop, it is only for development. Now nobody can stop development because of reason. He wants result only. In spite of negative focus on all side. Nobody stopped his familiarity. He is able leader. wait and see bright future to india and every indian can enjoy the same irrespective of caste.
