Bengaluru: Cop beats daughter on street as crowd watches

Bengaluru, Mar 12 (PTI): A man, said to be a Tamil Nadu police sub-inspector, allegedly beat up his daughter on a street here with about 50 people simply watching it with pictures of the incident posted on a Facebook page by a techie going viral.

A city-based Programme Manager at a tech firm has posted pictures on her Facebook page showing a man who she said is a sub-inspector with Madurai police beating his daughter on the street while her mother watched as a mute spectator.

The parents suspected that their daughter employed in the city was in a relationship and was hence "teaching her a lesson" and refused to listen to her or believe her denying it, the post along with the picture, alleged.

"Barely a few days since #IndiasDaughter stirred the world, we witnessed another shameful incident in Bangalore today," Nivedita Chakraborty said in her post which has been liked and shared by over thousand five hundred people.

"The girl is working in Bangalore. The man beating her up on the streets publicly is none other than her father, ... a sub-inspector with Madurai police. Her mother, a silent spectator of the entire incident is a teacher in Madurai."

Narrating the incident, she said "On our way to office, me and my friend Archana were shocked to see a girl aged about 25 being beaten black and blue by a strong well-built man, with at least 50 people standing on the street and simply watching."
"Me and Archana rushed out of the car, pushed the man back in an attempt to loosen his grip on the girl. He was grabbing the girl by her hair, slapping her, kicking her in the groin as she fell down on the road," Chakraborty said.

"Archana started pushing the man while I tried untangling the girl's hair from his fingers. Once freed, we along with the girl sought refuge inside our car," she said, adding that the man sat down on the car bonnet, refusing to let us drive.

Stating that the father wanted to take her back to Madurai against the wishes of the adult daughter and forcibly marry her to someone of their choice, Chakraborty in her post says "The mother, a teacher, kept blaming the girl for the shame that she has brought upon her family."

"We called the police who came after 30 mins and took the family away to Ulsoor Police station," she added.

Police said someone had called the control room and informed about the incident. "Our men had gone there, but the parents and daughter left saying they will sort out the issue. No complaint was registered."

Ad, Mangalore. Thanks for giving that news I did not see. I am sure you're going to get that Bharat Ratna from your friend if not from Indian government. BY the way, (Grandfather pleads guilty to rape and sexual assault of granddaughters in Alice Springs) if this news is true, you also noticed that he pleaded guilty, did not say that I am innocent and it is politically motivated or they should have just allowed me to rape quietly.
The 54-year-old man, who has been charged by Child Abuse Squad detectives, is accused of raping his child and assaulting her mother at his western Sydney home. he is accused of raping and he is already charged. What happened to those raped in West Bengal, the prime suspect is still missing after 10 years.

Before we can have a civilized society, we need to accept that something is clearly uncivil in society so we can correct it. Sadly we live in self-denial.

Unfortunately in my India parents think they responsible for their kids no matter how old they are. Parents seem to forget a child also grows into an adult one day and you have to relax.
Some Indian kids are also no different, totally dependent on their parents even after they are grown. Some even blame their parents for their failure.
That being said, this man is a criminal so treat him as a criminal. No matter who is physical assault is a serious crime and he has to face the wrath of the Law.

Yes, violence do exists but the culprits are nabbed and charged and the court punishes them. here we are in self denial even when it is done in-front of a mob, takes ages even to register a complaint and finally when the accused is arrested (most of the time not even arrested) then he will get bail. Once he is in the jail, he will still say that he is innocent and the rape victim should have simply allowed him to rape her without protesting and it was her mistake to be outside at that time. When people like you you defend this, it termed as self denial

What they call this in the west?? Domestic violence or child abuse? Is it in India too?? So called father beating his teenage girl in the public like an animal. He is a policeman and if he beats his own daughter like this, God knows what happens to common citizens who approaches him for with complaint. Mother who is a teacher watches the fun without helping her daughter in some way and imagine how she TEACHES a lesson to her students. Many men in public watches the drama but it was up to these 2 brave women to fight with this policeman and rescue the victim. Shame on you men who were watching!! You people are good enough only for rape/sexual harassment or molesting.

WE talk about the domestic violence in other countries and here a father beating her teenage daughter in public like an animal. Mother who is also a teacher just watches. How does she manages children in school god knows. Finally with so many men watching it required 2 women to stop this man and save the girl. Are Indian men sane or just good in molesting/sexual harassment and rape. I cant digest it. can those people who defend everything happens in India put their hands up and explain??

This re-enforces the India's Daughter documentary depiction of many Indians mind-set. In this case father and mother that they think a grown up daughter is their possession and abuse her physically. The two ladies who came to her rescue are indeed the modern Indian daughter's who stood up while rest watched. I hope that poor girl would muster the courage to take on her parents and teach them a lesson they will never forget. Authorities should have taken suo-moto action and dismiss this police officer as punishment

Bengalauru Police are hand in gloves with that Tamilnadu brute Inspector and forced the daughter to go to Madurai with parents against her will.
In fact Women's Rights Organization should take up this matter with Home Minister and ensure that Bengaluru Police are also punished for this anti-women attitude.
When this news reaches TN Chief Minister Jayalalitha I am sure that immediately she will take suo moto action against that TN Inspector and suspend him for tarnishing the image of TN police in another state and also for beating his daughter.

It is time that the employment protection given to public servants by the constitution is reconsidered. There should be speedy ways of dismissal. This unruly behaviour of a father against his daughter needs to be dealt with severely by law. When a policeman treats his daughter like this, just imagine how he will treat the citizens of our country. Aache din aagaye hai. God save us.

Daughter is an adult, she is responsible for her decisions, parents can only advice, persuade. No physical force.

Physical abuse of a woman or man, so what he is the father?

A police personnel - breaking the law?

Family affairs are better dealt in homes, not at public places.

I am sure they both are educated, but still stick on to their old beliefs .... whatever it is! Nonsense. I think the parents should be punished and jailed for life. Kudus to the techie ladies who had the guts to stop the father (I don't want to call man, because in my opinion, he is a coward and so are also the 50 odd people of the neighborhood watching the scene).
