Mangaluru: Lizard found in food - Angry students vandalise college hostel

Mangaluru, Mar 13: The students of PA College of Engineering, Nadapadavu at Konaje went on a rampage destroying the college hostel property, alleging that a lizard had been found in the food served at the hostel. The incident occured on Friday March 13 in the boys' hostel of the polytechnic students of the college.

It is alleged that lizard was found in the curry served in the hostel on the night of Thursday March 12. Angered by this, the students pelted stones and broke the window panes of the four-storey building, threw soda bottles and destroyed TV sets and furniture.

Tense atmosphere prevailed in the premises following the incident. Speaking to media persons, the students said, "We have paid several thousands of rupees as fees to get admission in this college. The hostel is full of problems. Even though we have complained to the management, they are not willing to take the students into confidence."

Konaje police arrived at the spot and brought the situation under control. No case has been registered so far.

Following the incident, the students who vandalised the hostel were sent back to their homes for week. Their parents have been informed and they have been given warning, sources said.

    I came back and read few comments from the students who study there. I do not know anyone here and not belonged to the management either. What I know is all from the news. What I wrote previously is " by smashing the furniture you don't get justice" Someone said if it happens in a hotel, they will smash the hotel. Seriously..?? Do you know the law?? In a court of law you have to pay all the compensation for the loss of property. Surely you will get some compensation from the court if your health effected after eating it but remember if you have not eaten that food, you might not chance to get anything from the court. The hotel will loose it's license to run. What I was trying to say there is taking the law into your hand don't solve the problem. I was not aware of the conditions of the hostel. I also stayed in hostel for 4 years. I do not know what actions you people took so far. How much effort you put to sit and talk this with the management. You could go on strike, hunger strike if the conditions are bad. In this age of media you have a lot of option to highlight this issue to the public which the management should be afraid of. If you're following international rule, Hamas is fighting with Israel since almost 1948 but never thought they can sit together and talk. So many problems solved by talk like Berlin wall, IRA, enmity between UK and France, between UK and Spain but Hamas backed by Arabs don't get the point. Bring this issue to public by strike/protest /boycotting classes. media will highlight everything these days and take full advantage of that.

    Sometimes because of negligence such mistake happens. Best way to avoid any creature falling in the vessels, is to cover the utensils properly. Lizard or cockroaches cannot clime the vessels since they are hot. There are chances for it to fall from above.

    What students did also too much. It is sheer vandalism. Such incident may happen in our own house. Then what would be the reaction?

    Management and students must have mutual understanding between each other, and if the proper service is not provided for the student then the Local Officers or Education department should take strict action upon that institution so there wont be any chance given for Ramage or destruction of college property!!!

    These mngt just think about their money and their property this people dint turned up for six your many student dint had eaten food after this incident was happend they just camed at night by 11 and wnt after having a talk many students slept the whole nyt outside the hstl and in they morning also thse students dint had fud they dint camed and asked.Is this the mngt should be?then y the hell they we students r giving money to them

    Very ugly perfomance displayed by PA managment. This is not what students expecting from the managment side. Managment is responsible fo givin explanation to students. And all above students are also a citizen and they have RIGHTS.

    First of al i am supporting the students of PAFGC and the poly technic of PACE because we know that the mgt are careless on the food which they are serving to the children and not the first or second time happenning it is a fifth time they are getting something which human beings does not ete usually in india,if the clg was in china i accept you,mgt....so i cannot never support you.................

    Some people bothered about the loss happen for the manegment. Not about the life of the students. If the same thing happen in a hotel wat u people will do ? You will blast that hotel and tell like this we don't wand this type of hotels here. the same thing when the students did u r saying its not the way

    This is not first time if it was first time then its the mistake of the students .but this is the 5th time . the previous time they got cocrog because of that 1 of the student was appointed in hospital. If that boy was died because of this food issue what the manegment will tell ?

    Wats this?? How can a management be so irresponsible.?? Wat if a student dies? Who will take the responsibility? Dont they(management) knows that police is not allowed to enter the college campus? I doubt that the police is being controlled by the college management. Students are not completely right but the weight of the weighing machine is in students side almost 90 percent.

    It is not the first or second time that we students are getting insects from the food provided by the mess of pa clg. More than 3000 students are eating the same food .As lizard is very poison to humans if any of us dies what responsibility can this irresponsible management could tell.? Our life is more important than the hostel or the college

    its very pathetic to here this incident becz the whole students are not savages to eat the lizard. The violens happend only bcz of the damn rule of the managemnt ! most of the privat managment colgs are doing like this. They thinks that the student all are blind and ready for the hell wot the managemnt pointing. it will b a great warning for the whole managmnt who are doing like this.

    I am one of the student involved in this case ...and I can clearly justify ourselves...we had rampaged the hostel in a rage....have anyone asked why? We students' s life is the responsiblity of the Management since we are staying at clg hostel....but what happened was that the mgt did not turn up...Instead they sent police enforcement to stop the noise and problem. ..wen the police threatened to lathicharge...all got into a fit of anger again.......we did not get response from management side till 6 hours after the incident. ....3-4 students even vomited , but no medical help was provided by the management. ...
    is JUSTICE still on their part or ours?

    there is no evidence of complaints has registered by students of Degree college and more over who r they to vandalize public property.there was no student morality and ethics on the situation. in this case no support to those students have found.

    Here the college and students should both made responsible.College must also listen to students Problems and try to solve it.and students also should take serious their studies and not harm Inventar from college.by destroying they dont achieve anything.and who prepare Food must see that such things not happen ,and weil serving also bit careful.Can happen in India such things do find in Food.Now college has sent students home and warned.College could also take Casino People to Task.who will pay the damage costs?

    Well... Before you judge the college or the students please have better knowledge of how the college functions. Students don't often resort to such acts for their leisure. In most cases the management neglects such basic hygiene standards. If there is no approachable person who can handle the situation maturely this is bound to happen. I wouldn't completely support the students either because destroying valuables won't help them time travel to the past and get rid of lizards. Both the college and students take sad advantage of their environments.

    Every Educational Institute is for minting money Through Bribe,Donation,High Fees and poor service and lousy Teaching. This is what is happening now as Politicians are involved in these scams. A Politician who do not have high school education,Bus Conductors,Tax Cheaters and Criminals owns Colleges. End result-fraud in Education,Certificates through cash
    under the table etc. This is why there are more Institution in shop front,behind fish market,near Cemeteries and Rudra Bhoomi and every foot step.
    Students are only a number to make money. Their welfare is last on list.

    Very true! While condemning the vandalizing incident, generally speaking, off late many professional educational institutes and even 'deemed universities' have mushroomed being set up by people with shady/dubious backgrounds and severe rut has set deep into the system where only main agenda is Vitamin M, rest all is secondary!!!

    first of all it is not P.A.COLLEGE OF Engineering students but P.A POLYTECHNIC AND P.A FIRST GRADE COLLEGE students who vandalised the hostel.whatever may be the reason nobody can vandalise property.whoever vandalised should be punished severely

    It would make sense to find out the source/circumstances as how the lizard got into the curry. The students could have taken up the matter with the Management or the catering dept. Looks like the students had more fun in vandalising property. They should all be held responsible and pay for the loss, collectively.

    Come on boys?? It is a big mess to have a lizard in the curry unless the cook made the lizard curry. By smashing the hostel would you all get justice?/ Get that cook and teach him a lesson and make sure he will not serve in the hostel anymore. The lesson also for other cooks.
