Mangaluru, Mar 14: Newly-appointed mayor Jacintha Alfred, Syndicate member of Mangalore University M P Noronha and chairman of Bantwal Urban Development Authority (BUDA) Pius Rodrigues were felicitated on Saturday March 14 at Bishop's House, Mangaluru. All three promised that they would work for the society and for the Christian community.

Addressing the gathering, mayor Jacintha expressed gratitude to God and said that she was very delighted to be elected as the mayor.

BUDA president Pius Rodrigues said, "When Congress party won in the state, chief minister Siddaramaiah brought about lots of initiatives to help the poor and the Christian community. Congress party is giving us lot of support."

Syndicate member of Mangalore University M P Noronha said, "Helping people is like helping God and I will serve my people and the society."

Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy president Roy Castelino said, "This programme is like a family gathering. Jacintha Alfred has earned the mayoral post and it is proud moment for all of us. A few years back we were worried that there was no leader from our community to support us, but now that fear has gone because we have J R Lobo, Ivan D'Souza and many more Konkani leaders to support us.

"We are qualified for higher posts as we do not act like the uneducated and we do not create any nuisance in society," he added.

Addressing the gathering MLC Ivan D'Souza said, "Jacintha is the right person to be elected as the mayor. We politicians are not meant to work for only Christians, we are here for the entire society."

Ivan also briefed about the works undertaken by him under the guidance of CM of Karnataka and other various programmes initiated by the government.

Fr Denis Moras Prabhu in his presidential address said that God has chosen everyone for different reasons. "A Catholic woman getting the mayor's post is a wonderful moment for all of us. When things are going in a good way we should not forget to thank God. Christian community is a community which prays for the welfare of others."

Rosario Church parish priest Fr J B Crasta conducted the prayer service. Pingara editor Raymond D'Cunha compered the ceremony. Fr William Menezes welcomed the guests.

Louis J Pinto, president of Mandd Sobhann, Henry Sequeira, Stany Alvares, Elias Fernandes, Mangaluru zone forest officer Clifford Lobo, corporators A C Vinayaraj, Sabita Misquith and Asha D'Silva, ex-mayor Hilda Alva, Lawrence, Vittory Karkal and others were also present.

Very good start on the part of the Mangalore Diocese to greet and meet the newly elected Mayor, Jacintha at the Bishop's House.

Mayor Jacintha has the best of the support from the cream of the Catholic society of Mangalore, specially the Priests and the Nuns plus some of the highly educated Christians who will be able render their valuable support to the newly elected Mayor.

A Mayor's role is nothing different from the "City Father" or a "City Mother" who will guide the destiny of the vibrant city amidst all the ups and downs. But Mangalore, as a vibrant city has all the positive merits to move forward. Ladies if India have a special class of professionalism for all that they contemplate for a family or a community. Women are cautiousness in their deliberations, and the women have the quality of professionalism to make so many things possible and beneficial to our people.

We have our all-out support for you, Mayor Jacintha. We shall provide you various 'tid-bits' on Houston and Dallas, Texas where the Mayors are so powerful and so dynamic in all their dedications that benefit the people.

Our best wishes to Mangalore, as always.

You have been choses by the govt. and elected by people to serve the community. Serve them with dedication, commitment and fulfill the aspiration of people.

Irrespective to religion, when u have power, people will be around u. But once the CHAIR goes, nobody will care for u.

One can fool the world, but not his/her own conscious & the ALMIGHTY above. We are living in a world, some have no fear even to ALMIGHTY. Corruption, deceit is deep rooted in their blood.

Hope these representative will serve the Society. Your service & your honesty, itself is the proof about yourself.

We wish u all the best.

Congratulations. I have one suggestionn to make? Sir, we all know that inat present our Kadri park area is frequented by many Mangalorians . We see plenty of people in the evenings in all days of the week. Opposite the main entrance we have plent y of tents, carts' small sheds being used as shops selling bhelpury, sugar cane juice, chaats etc. They are very unclean. Most of them wash their plates and glasses in one bucket of dirty water. This causes slow poisoning & deadly deceased. You people can if you make up your mind, change this into a beautiful Demario by uniform beautiful colorful small shops like we see in Foriegn countries. Lircences can be issued . Regular inspections can be made by health authorities,. Even small fees charged, say Ra 10000/- deposit for a shop and rent around 1000/- per month. Of course you know what can be charged etc. But please take up this work,Itwill improve our cities image as well protect health of visitors. Thanx.

With Best Wishes To The Newly Chosen Service Providers. Yes, I call them Service Providers. It is Nice that the Community is Honoring them, BUT, all these are PUBLIC positions for PUBLIC SERVICE..be it the Mayor, BUDA Chairman or Syndicate Member. Our Society is Multi Dimensional and Multi Religious...BUT Religion should have NOTHING to do with Service. The Whole Society needs to be Taken along with you. Like Dear Ivan said, You are there for every one and ALL should FEEL that way...We are Sure You Always Conduct yourself with Every Community in mind..Tat is WHY you have been Chosen for these Honored Posts. You all know that Religion is a Private Matter, where as these Posts are PUBLIC Matters...Let us Always keep Service in Mind...Nothing else matters...Wishing All of You A Great Tenure Ahead...JAI HO..>>JAI HIND...>>>Jerardin D'souza Founder DirectorMangalore Alzheimer's AssociationM.A.A.-Founder MemberState Christian Development Council [KSCMDC]

Religious People are so convinced that only their religion is RIGHT CHOICE. But I don't see them asking for HINDU BLOOD, CHRISTIAN BLOOD OR MUSLIM BLOOD at the blood banks when they need it at the medical emergency.
