Mangaluru, Mar 15: Tension prevailed at Mudipu after Bajrang Dal activists indulged in moral policing and stopped a college bus in which students of first year BA and BCom were going for an education tour on the night of Saturday March 14.

The group of around 300 Bajrang Dal activists went on a rampage, pelting stones at the bus, allegedly because the boys and girls in the bus belonged to different communities.

Also, the activists are said to have also pelted stones at Noorania Juma mosque and ripped off banners at Mudipu junction. It is alleged that they also assaulted three people who were going home in a auto rickshaw. The seriously injured Imran, Sawad and others were going home after playing a cricket match when the assault took place.

As reported earlier, the bus in which about 38 students of Mudipu government college were about to go on an educational tour of Bengaluru and Mysuru, when the activists waylaid the bus saying that boy and girl students participating in the tour belonged to different communities. Four lecturers, 24 boys and 14 girls were part of the tour.

The police who came to the the spot had to request the college management to cancel the tour to avoid further trouble.

The girl students were thereafter sent home with their parents, while the boy students were accommodated at the college premises for the night.

A group which was about to destroy the bus was sent back after the police resorted to lathi charge to disperse the crowd. Yet the group managed somehow to cause damages to the bus by breaking its windshield.

Police who had gathered there and members of the public present at the spot also came under the rain of stone pelting. A personnel of Karnataka State Reserve Police force, Hareesh, suffered injury to his hand in the incident. Stones and soda bottles were also pelted at shops.

Police security in the area has been beefed up.

Ashwin, it is a great thought which I am thinking for years when these activists just started. I would love to meet you in person and may be we can honestly think of making that dream come true. We need another group (who takes everything from the nation's point of view and completely out of politics and religion) to tackle this group.

This is in response to various conflicting reports about the tour in media. The tour was a unique opportunity to students to watch the live proceedings of assembly at Bangalore. The tour was initiated by Our CDC president local MLA and Health Minister Sri UT Khader it is endorsed by all CDC members. 38 students including 14 girl students were part of the team . Among the girls 14 were Hindu girl 2 Christians . Among boys 12 were Hindus and 12 were Muslims.

When our team is about to leave a few entered the college premises and requested us to cancel the tour citing the reason that there were no Muslim girls and further you have not obtained necessary permission from authorities but we clarified that we have obtained due permission from concerned authorities and consent from the parents and we have not forced anyone to come . But the person who came to us didn't agree to that . By that time a huge crowd was gathered outside the college gate shouting slogans. At that point in time safety of the students were paramount to us so we could not proceed with tour . The police were also helpless because they didn't have enough forces with them so they suggested us to cancel the tour There were 4 faculty members in the team including one female staff. The management has taken all precaution to ensure smooth conduct of the tour. On that night the staff members sent all female students to their respective homes along with their parents with police protection. The boys were asked to stay at the college premises. however they have been sent home during late night along with police and their parents. The female staff member stayed at local female teachers house . Only two teachers stayed at school on that night. This is the fact

    People,

Please understand that there is a passive support for these type of acts. Thats why they continue. Just take how these goons are handled by law and ask yourself the questions what happened to the goons who took part in the pub attack? what happened to the goons who vandalised the church? what happened to the goons who beat up the girls in homestay attack? Our laws are weak to the point they have become useless as a deterrent to commit such acts. The worst of all is that we are doing exactly what these goons want us to do.

Individual rights are trampled upon with the excuse of security. Just this article is the example of the very same thing. Here the rights of the individual has been sacrificed for the reason of avoiding further trouble. This act shows how weak our Police really is. Now its basically we can only do what these right wing goons think is appropriate.

We as a people dont even deserve democracy. we are not matured enough to have it.

“They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.”

”Those Who Sacrifice Liberty For Security Deserve Neither.”

    This is a true story
This is a discussion between my MD and me back in 2012.
We where in the plans of opening up a firm, everything was going according to the plan. I had given him all the possible support, has to work on lot of needed reports, hours together I worked on the required files, permissions required, licence and so on.
The project was all set to launch by mid 2013,
We needed at least 240 staff, maybe 160 women and rest men. I did all the ground work to arrange for the stay of 7 senior staff (women) 2 Indians, 2 from Philippines 1 Chinese, one from Scotland and one from Lebanon who would be stationed In mangalore and would be involved in setting up and training till late 2015. It's obvious that any I've before moving to another County or a city does all the possible research, they found the place to be very unsafe and unstable. Emails went on and on for a month or 2, I even had a police officer with a good ranking reply to a email which had many doubts about safety.
But at the end if the day they all found it unsafe and we had to scrap the entire project.
My 2 months worth hard work, multiple travels, all those calls, all those hopes just shattered right in front of my eyes.
I had involved all the positions equally, from laborers to senior engineers. Just think about the investment and jobs that would be created. All lost because of these uneducated goons.
We where just an small firm, think about the millions of dollars that want to tap In and the job opportunities that are waiting.

We have a port, enough storage place, affordable rents, an fully equipped international cargo airport, Good road connecting coverage and yet.. We have nothing. Reason. Very simple, these venom spitters, women beaters, hatred spreaders, uneducated political puppets.
Let's fight and make our image right, if not for others at least for our own dignity and self respect and to keep our parents/wife's /daughters and fellow citizens safe.

Each and every one who has any time in the life encountered any problem with the BD should go ahead and file a case against them. There should be a organization setup by the organizers and volunteers who fund it, consisting of lawyers, politicians, legal advisers, police personnel for protecting of victims and witnesses. Etc..
Build and file so many cases against each and every wrong doing of the BD, ultimately the group will be considered as anti society, anti national, terror and hatred spreading organization and eventually banned from operating first in karnataka and then entire County.

I request someone to please take an initiative, and I promise to be a full time member / volunteer. And even quit my day job and work 24/7 on making this mission a successful one.

If the police had enough b**ls, then they should have had taken these clowns up their a*s so no one dares to interfere in someone else's life. This applies not only to this group but from all groups irrespective of religion.

Enough is enough.

These BD is our USP for our tourism we can show them as part of our tulundau culture. Jokes apart Dakshina Kannada is the second greatest revenue creator to the state exchequer and we have got a raw deal from the state government. We have many number of educational institutions in daksina kannada and lakhs of students graduate from these universities and are forced to go outside the district to fid jobs. It is organisations like Bd that companies are not eager to setup offices in Dakshina kannada. An empty mind is a devil's workshop, Siddhu should jobs to these jobless goons and give them counselling on how to live harmoniously in a society. Kerala and Goa is giong way ahead of us in terms of tourism and nobody wants to come to Mangalore because the bad reputation we carry. If the state government at bangalore cannot arrest or control the goons here. We should have a separate state of our own called Tulunadu because culturally, traditionally and demographically we are different from rest of Karnataka.

These same activists , after dusk, go to the same bars and hotels that they attack, and have alcohol and beef. Probably, the night of the incident, hotels must have run out of beef chillly and alcohol.. so they targeted the children going for a tour. If there was a raid to be conducted simultaneously on all lodges, bar and non-veg hotels, i guarantee that you will find only these moral police in them. These so called moral police demand lodge owners to provide them room for free to fulfill their urges and if their demands are not met, they will raid the lodge saying there is illegal activities going on here and ruin their business. The same thing is done on hotels and bars. There is no point in all of us arguing and making statements saying " this is ridiculous, this should be condemned, they should be punished" and all, sitting in our air-conditioned cabins. It is nothing but the repercussions of our bad decisions of voting to majority at the central level, a party whose ideologies are based on these moral policing groups. Either go to the spot yourself anf try to stop it, or stop commenting like veteran political analysts and wait for another 4 years to rectify your decisions. Please note that i am not an affiliate to any political party. This is a classic example showing the importance of your Vote. If you had gone to a polling booth for and hour and voted instead of enjoying the polling day off by going to malls and frolicking the whole day, things would have been different. We have to be bothered by the political situation of our country before polls and not yappity yap about it after polls. I know, voting is not the only answer to all this, but at least it is one question thats asks us, " What are going to do, Are we doing the right thing?"

If this tour went ahead and then something else went wrong, you would be the first person to blame on teachers. You really don't know whether teachers contributed or not..do you?? You're just guessing. BTW, it is the school that decides which is the best place for educational tour depending on what they are studying. It is a Pre-University college and students don't study architecture there to go and study Belur and Halebeedu's structures. If you have completed Pre-University, then you must know it.

Such incident may take place even on private outdoor picnics (family & friends together) whenever we go to have a break from routine busy life and relax. I remember how much we used to enjoy during may vacation. (Barbecue, drinks, music) Now I feel that such picnics may be out of one’s imagination. Anything could happen as long as BD's take law in their hands. I feel so sorry for the eligible young generation how their freedom is curtailed by these hooligans.

The District Administration has utterly failed to provide security to the Students from these goons. The politicians had loudly promised that no moral policing would be tolerated in Mangalore which is why the Congress came to power.

The new generation students need to know how to interact with all kind of people in a globalized world. It is a part of their career requirement. Girls and boys raised with strong morals will remain so no matter wherever they go and whatever they do.

Cancelling the tour because of the threat by a few cheap lives is an insult to the students, their parents, teachers and more so to the District Administration. Their inaction gives the legitimacy for the moral policing in the future.

They, activists were creating a law and order situation and our protectors of LandO were afraid or reluctant to protect the innocents but trying to appease the group which was doing wrong.
It has become very apparent, these and many such groups are blatantly confronting the constitution of our Country.

Shankar, I do not see anything wrong in Ismail's comment on having separate schools for each religion. Why you have to be angry about this? As far as Government controlling the groups, that happens everywhere including in BJP ruled states. So, blaming just congress is not enough but if you REALLY do not want to give political colour to this, then blame of the group not political parties. No government can provide security to each and every bus in which people from different community commutes. About pelting stones, it is nothing to do with community but it is in Indian blood to whichever community you belong to. it was mostly the lowly educated people who pelted stones. See what the students of Engineering college did when they found lizard in curry? Do you do the same thing if it is a restaurant, perhaps you will call co,plaint to the manager and lodge a complaint in police so that authorities can cancel the license of that restaurant. If you break all the furniture, then whatever compensation you might get would be neutralised by the expenses you have to pay in a court of law.

Dont you think the government of Karnataka has failed the maintaining communal harmony in the state? especially in Udupi and Mangalore?
We have 3 congress MLAs, whats the problem in arresting people who take law into hand or those who disrupt the communal harmony?
Why the police were a mere spectators when some girl comes to Mangalore and spits venom in front of large gathering? Why rape and child abuse incidences are increasing in Karnataka?

Shankar, may be you're right in your own way of argument. We do have very weak law and we live in self denial as a society. We keep blaming each other either in the name of religion or in the name of politics. Unless we come out of this mentality (supporting something when it is done by my party/religions but opposing if the same thing done by other party/religion)That's why I asked you why you do not oppose when it is done by your party (whichever it is) India is a Union and I guess Indian government should make sure if someone is summoned by any court or wanted by any state police then interstate police should collaborate in bringing those people to the place they belong to. No government can do anything until the law is d as well as the freedom of speech is redefined.

I don't think it is siddu or police who need to take of these goons.
It is the fanatical organizations, who should tell their cadre to get inside the barrack and do something worthwhile with their lives.
Earn a living and earn some dignity.

I strongly condemn the Activist tried to attack police personals.
but we have to blame the school authorities coz how could they allow BOYS and GIRLS in same bus, they should have arranged separate bus for Boys and Girls like some colleges in Mangalore too have separate college bus for Girls and Separate college bus for boys.
But i also support the protest of activist because these so called lectures in college want to have a free trip to Bangalore and Mysore at the cost of students and I still wonder what educational trip has to get knowledge in going to places like Baangalore and Mysore its only a jolly trip. instead they can go and watch the engineering techniques used in Hampi Belur Halebidu and also analyse how they can use the ancient technology in modern world.

In future co-ed colleges need to present their list of candidates to these Taliban Oranganizations before admitting students from different communities, if this trend continues.
Its time for the public & student wings to protest these atrocities on their freedom by uneducated goons. Some MOLES among them have informed this fringe group about the tour.
Home Minister George seems to be in deep sleep or amnesia regarding these elements & their trespassing of HUMAN RIGHTS in D K. The reason fro BJP rout in this district are the same. Hope Congress men of these district rise against this & raise this matter in Vidhan Sabha.
Most probably they are passive supporters of these elements as congress needs these incidents to garner more votes.

I still remember my 10th class tour to Bangalore-Mysore-Kanyakumari with almost 60 students for 6 days and 5 nights. What a memory. That time like this inter community problem was not there. The children who could not afford, helped by fellow children and all of us went together.

Why these activists spoil the peace in the locality?

Slowly tolerating power diminishing because of these organisations. Leaders of these organisation sow poison in the mind of people and sit at home and enjoy the problems. ultimately common people suffers.

    Perinje Saab,
As you have chaddiless KFDs representing Muslim community, we too have some bad elements in our community.
The need of the hour is the actions of the sitting government. You should tell your chief minister to stop appeasing politics, stop free bhagyas and concentrate on effective governance.
Why congress government can not contain communal groups in Karnataka? Instead of providing security to the tour bus, the tour itself was cancelled! When a child is raped someone throws stones at buses instead of bashing the rapist.
Do not blame chaddis, its worn by someone who has got something to cover unlike the present congress government.

Otherwise it will be impossible for any college to conduct study tour for their College Students where there is co-education. When the parents of all the girl students have given permission who are these rowdies to raise objection ? This is not the first time that such incident has taken place. Earlier even the students of a Private college of Mangalore had faced similar situation and the college authorities did not complain to police, that is why those rowdy elements got courage to repeat the goondaism.
