Mangaluru, Mar 15: A unique 'Walk with confidence' fashion show for visually impaired and differently-abled was organized by students of Mangaluru Institute of Fashion Technology (MIFT) for the first time in Kadri Park on March 14 in the city.
It is said that one requires special skills to walk on the ramp but the visually impaired children of Roman and Catherine Lobo school for blind and specially abled children of Saanidhya special school showed that being specially-abled, they also have the special skills.
The fashion show began with the enactment of traditional characters, where the specially-abled dressed themselves as the various characters of Tulu folklore, Koti Chennayya, Pili vesha (traditional tiger dance) etc which won the hearts of the present.
The programme was inaugurated by former mayor of Mangaluru City Corporation(MCC), Mahabala Marla.
Marla congratulated the organizers for the unique programme and said "Such programmes truely build confidence in the minds of specially abled."
The director of MIFT M G Hegde addressing the gathered said, “Every kid has a desire to wear new clothes and look good. The visually impaired have their inner eyes open even though their outer eyes are closed. But we have closed our inner eyes even though we have our outer eyes open. We should encourage the specially-abled children.”
The programme was organized by MIFT college in association with Mandev Educational and Charitable Trust.
Princiapal of the college Chandralekha Gowda, chairman of the trust and former minister Nagaraj Shetty were present at the occasion.

I hope communally ill sangh parivar get a lesson out of this event. However, as they are blind / deaf / dumb, no change will take place in their attitudes.

This is not just a show!! Its an example of people who follow religion of humanity. Bringing up the talent in Special student is really an awesome idea.Hats off to the organizers. May God bless u guys for organizing such event.

Congratulation !! Hats off to MIFT,for their innovative idea for hosting a fashion show for the physically marginalized citizens. It was indeed a moving sight.... seeing those beautiful pictures of of our handicapped, blind & disabled children & elders of our society.The outfits & designs were truly awe inspiring.Please do host your show in Mumbai & other metropolitan cities of India. MIFT, you guys have made my day today................

Great effort by MIFT, Roman and Catherine Lobo school and Saanidhya special school. I have to appreciate the hard work of ST Agnes special school (not sure whether they have changed the name of the school) as well in making these differently-ableed children/people mentally as well as physically strong to live in this society amongst us with great confidence.
