Bengaluru: IAS officer D K Ravi who took on sand mafia found dead

Updated

Bengaluru, Mar 16 (Agencies): Young IAS officer D K Ravi, posted as Karnataka's additional commissioner, commercial tax, was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his St John's Wood apartment in Kormangla, Bengaluru.

His body was found hanging from the ceiling at his apartment. The Incident occured at Madiwala police station limits.

Police commissioner M N Reddi, officials of the commercial tax office and lawmakers Ramesh Kumar and Sampangi from Kolar district rushed to Ravi's flat in upscale Koramangala in eastern suburb.

When Ravi's wife learnt that he did not go to office till lunch time and was not taking calls since noon, two-three department officials went to the apartment late afternoon to check if he was at home.

"As there was no response from inside, the flat was opened with a duplicate key his wife had," Reddi said.

The officials and Ravi's wife were shocked to see him hanging with a piece of cloth tied to the fan.

Ravi had returned home in the morning from office and initial probe indicated it was a case of "suicide prima facie," M N Reddi told reporters.

"Inquest proceedings have to take place so that we can come to conclusive understanding of the case but we don't have any doubt at this point in time in our mind that this is a case of suicide," he said.

Reddi said no suicide note was found as of now and "prima facie, we don't see any room for foul play."

A cloth was used to hang from a fan, Reddi said.

He said the forensic medicine and forensic science team visited the spot and conducted preliminary investigation.

"Initial investigation into the cause of the death indicates that this is a case of suicide prima facie; the investigation into the further details about the nature of the incident and exact time of death, are being conducted."

Reddi said a special investigation team, headed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East) Rohini Katoch, who is a medical doctor by qualification, had been formed. She will be assisted by forensic medicine, forensic science and regular police team specially selected for it.

"Rohini and Joint Commissioner of Police Alok Kumar visited the apartment for studying the scene of incident. The special team will investigate the nature and time of Ravi's death though we have no doubt at this point of time this is a case of suicide," Reddi reiterated.

"The investigation will be completed as early as possible..," Reddi said.

"After preliminary investigation, we have come to know that this death should have happened after 11 am."

"I have spoken to (Police) Commissioner and have asked him to investigate the matter completely," Karnataka Home Minister K J George told reporters.

"It has to be investigated... All angles will be looked into," he said, when asked about reports that the officer had faced threats to his life."He was an upright officer, he was a youth and doing a great work. His death is a great loss to the state," George said.

Ravi had served as the DC of Kolar. He had run a crusade against illegal sand mining. He had also exposed several caes of tax evasion by top builders. He had recovered several encroached lands and lakes in Kolar.

In October last year, Ravi's transfer from Kolar district had triggered protests.

The 36-year-old Ravi was recently transferred to the state's commercial tax office here from Kolar where he was the deputy commissioner.

Born on June 10, 1979, DK Ravi became an IAS officer in 2009. Home Minister K J George is taking stock of the situation. Top politicos have also rushed to the spot.

Why Sonia and Rahul Gandhi are maintaining silence? Are they SHOWING THEIR solidarity with the perpetrators, OR THIS CASE DOES NOT MERIT THEIR CONSIDERATION, OR THEY FEAR THAT ROBERT VADRA'S CASE VIS A VIS KHEMKA IS TOO SIMILAR? IT IS QUITE OBVIOUS THAT SHE IS PATRONISING CORRUPT MINISTERS like D.K. Shiva kumar who has huge stakes in Sobha Developers with all their ill gotten money from dubious sources at Dubai and George, who has parked all his ill gotten gratification money in Embassy Group of developers? These real estate mafia and politicians nexus, irrespective of whichever political party affiliation, should be thoroughly investigated and the guilty sent to jail for life time. If Sonia and Rahul are upright and honest, they should sack both D.K. Shiva kumar and George forthwith and suspend them from their Party.

Let D.K.Ravi be the source of energy to these officers.

From what I gather from the news that are flashed on TV, DKR was on the verge of unveiling a massive commercial tax fraud and had gathered evidence pertaining to the same. It is said He was arranging for the raid within days and then this happened which so far is not confirmed as suicide or murder!!
Will a person of DKR quality who was preparing for a raid, suddenly commit suicide? Will the people believe this from the Police\Government?
In many cases earlier those were killed exposing scams etc. no justifiable reason were given, this will also end up the same way and all his good\honest work will go down the drain.
Rest in Peace DKR ( I doubt he will) and those who have to fear him will keep looking over their shoulders from this day on...you all will be cursed from this day on.
Wonder if Police\investigators recovered his laptops etc. as, as per their info so far it loos like suicide and all his things should be in his apartment\office intact...

Very sad that a brave officer is no more amongst us.
We, the people of India, want a fair trial and judgment based upon the facts, not money. RIP

After successful raids in Kolar and most recently in Bangalore, including last week, there were local news within the power corridors that the anti-corruption crusader, despite being a IAS officer yet in Govt service under the extraordinarily corrupt Govt Karnataka has ever had, a rare-specimen called D K Ravi was about to raid a bunch of real-estate dons , all of which have been among the real-estate firms in Blr that have miraculously increased business by over 500% to 2000%, in the past few years!

Expect 24/7 media news and obviously high TRP ratings on this popular-sensitive topic for next few days and everything forgotten after that. Sad but true.....Nothing surprising in a society where even the AAP leader has shockingly turned out to be a absolutely crooked, shameless cheat!

Honest and bold Lokatuktha justice Sudheendra Rao who sent Yeddi/Katta to jail was transferred to Tumkur district court by this congress govt few months back.

DK Ravi was DC at Kolar and recently he was transferred to Blore by this congress Govt due to pressure from land mafia and sand mafia. This was against the wish of the people of Kolar.

This govt is busy rescuing thugs, rapists, rowdies, goondas at the cost of innocent officers life, like this one. Karnataka is becoming goonda state like Bihar and UP. Siddu wants to safeguard his chelas. Siddu must answer to people of Karnataka.

    Mr Sampath,
State govt giving good administration. Don't bring on this issue.if Top officer got treat in his life must keep sacurity. Top officers always getting security guard even there official resresidents. But here without security guard means unfortunate. Same story happen in Mangalore ling time back.

It is the job of State Govt to give him security. In Kolar he had threats from real estate goons. He had informed District incharge minister UT Khader. Now Khader must answer to the public instead of doing Fekugiri in Vidhana Soudha.

Mr. Sampath, Don't blame the State Govt., until the BJP came in centre everything was fine. ESPECIALLY N MANGALORE. NOW THAT THE BJP IS RULING IN THE CENTRE, THESE BD'S, RSS ARE TAKING LAW INTO HANDS. COZ THEY KNOW THAT THEY WILL BE SAVED BY THE BJP. AT LEAST WE DID NOT HAVE COMMUNAL VIOLENCE WHEN WE HAD CONGRESS AT THE CENTRE AND STATE. ALL WE WANT IS LAW & ORDER AND PEACE IN THE STATE. LIVE AND LET LIVE. REST ANY GOVT COMES IT IS THE SAME. THEY FIRST FILL THEIR POCKETS.
