Udupi: 50-year-old man hangs himself in rented room

Udupi, Mar 18: A man allegedly committed suicide in a rented room at city's Chaya private complex here on the night of Tuesday March 17.

Suresh Ganiga (50) allegedly hanged himself from the ceiling fan in the room using the wire of an electric iron.

A resident of Jangamarabettu, Kallianpur, Ganiga had rented a room in Chaya private complex.

On Tuesday night, he came to his room at around 8.30 pm and locked the door. The incident came to light later when his roommate knocked at the door and received no response. Mahantesh at once informed the manager, and on breaking open the door, found Ganiga hanging.

Ganiga was a driver with Gayatri Tours and Travels for the past one month.

Police sources also said that he was a habitual drinker. His uncle's death a few years ago had left him depressed, sources said.

A case has been registered in Udupi town police station based on a complaint by Chaya complex owner Nagraj S Hegde.
