'Abducted' woman refuses to accompany husband, chooses Ashram as home

Daijiworld Media Network - Puttur (SP)

Puttur, Mar 19: Keerthika (24), wife of Giridhar Bhat from Kallare here, about whom a complaint of abduction had been lodged against David Denson from here and worked in Bengaluru sometime back, was produced at the court here on Wednesday March 18. The policemen, after getting information that Keerthika was living at Anbujyothi Ashram in Villupuram district, Tamil Nadu, had obtained search warrant from Puttur court and reached the Ashram. They had raided the Ashram, found Keerthika there, and brought her here.

Keerthika told the court that she was not willing to go with her husband. She wanted to live in the Ashram from where she was brought here. With her refusal to go back to her husband's family, a new legal issue surfaced.

Puttur town police inspector, B K Manjaiah, had led the said raid, based on a complaint filed by the husband of the woman that a person named David Denson had abducted his wife. After sometime, another complaint was filed on behalf of David Denson, alleging that he was kidnapped and assaulted by the complainant during his visit to the town to appear in the court.

Keerthika-file photo

It is gathered that Giridhar Bhat, a doctor by profession, and Keerthika, an engineering graduate, had been in love with each other since their student days. After marriage, Keerthika worked in a software firm in Bengaluru. After some rumours spread about her, her husband's family made her to resign that job and come back here. However, reportedly, she fled from her home on September 11, 2014, with the help of Denson and one of his friends.

On Wednesday, when Keeerthika was produced in the court, the judge asked about her wish. Keerthika said that there was marital discord between her and her husband, and that her husband and mother-in-law were inflicting mental torture on her. She also discounted the allegations of her husband that she had undergone religious conversion, adding that she was never forced by anyone to change her religion.

She therefore, requested to be dropped off back in the Ashram from where she was brought here. The court accepted her request and asked police to send her back to the said Ashram. This development has given an interesting twist to the six-month-old case in which allegations of abduction, religious conversion, love etc had been levelled.

Is is still love and the love is not done for conversion. How do you say people love someone who belong to other community is only for conversion??

    @ Krishna Bhatt,

Have you ever tried to live with your "dear" relatives when you had any kind of problems?

Try the Ashram instead, which is open to yourself as well.

I find it ridiculous to call a man of one religion who helps a woman of another religion as "boy friend".

If the man in question is her boyfriend, why not live wid him instead..??

What is wrong even if he becomes more than a boy friend in days to come for rescuing her from her painful life situation?

Last year I myself tried to help a Hindu married lady (at the request of her near ones) to help her out in certain issues affecting her children and herself.

Most of all she is more mature than you are, to take the decision whether to live in an Ashram or on the moon, and doesn't require parental guidance like some people like you are accustomed to.

Instead of just commenting as worthless (though she is an educated women), I feel it good, if the parivar outfits, in addition to convening Samajothsava's, take up some steps to properly counsel hindu women about the ideals of noble life. Spelling hatred words against poor hindu girl (and probably on Denson) in confusion won't help the society.

Shanawaz, why call it love migration. It is a mans world & most people will always blame the girl . How about blaming the husband , the inlaws etc. Religion was made so that only the men are superior. women are nothing in front of man . The attrocities inflicted on the girlchild/ wife & mother are many by men in India. All of the male species are quick to point out that it is western culture & against our great Indian culture , while we condemn them from birth & ensure that they are shown their rightful place in the kitchen .Shame on the Indian men folk.I have my collegue whose husband expects her to do all the household work & be at his service at all times inspite of the fact that they have the same practice & have the same profession , never lifts a finger, expects his wife to be on her toe tips to serve him & his parents. She is mentally abused all the time. She quietly endures this atrocity just so that she is afraid that she may loose her wedded life & bring shame to her family . It is a cruel & terrible world for women in India.

Straight going into an Ashram and all that ..you may be startled! Nowadays
what's happening outside Ashrams is happening inside too! So -you must have a 'perfect balance' before going inside.
Now Now... not only Ashrams ...all so called 'places of peace'.

Obvious routes to destruction can be managed and controlled only through determination, concentration, tracking limitations, self control, conscience and prayers.

If she was in an affair with denson, she should have divorced her husband and then thought of next step. This is disgraceful. and let me tell you at the beginning anyone will be ready to do anything for a girl, Tajmahal etc , later it might change.
