Five killed in Jammu road accident

Jammu, March 19 (IANS): Five people were killed in the Jammu region on Thursday when their taxi, plying on the Jammu-Srinagar highway, plunged into a deep gorge, police said.

A taxi went out of the driver's control and plunged into a deep gorge near Shaitani Nallah on Jammu-Srinagar highway in Ramban district Thursday morning, a senior police officer told IANS here.

"Five passengers were killed on the spot and three were critically injured," the officer said.

All the passengers on the vehicle were labourers and were not locals.

The strategic Jammu-Srinagar highway was thrown open for one-way traffic on Thursday after remaining closed for four consecutive days due to landslides.
