Mangaluru, Mar 19: Hundreds of well-wishers and fans, relatives and family members bid a tearful farewell to the legend of Tulu theatre and cinema K N Tailor at his residence in Ujjodi here on Thursday March 19.
Kadandale Narayana Tailor (K N Tailor), known the first Super Star of Tulu cinema, passed away due to illness at a hospital in the city on Wednesday March 18 morning.
The mortal remains were kept for public viewing at his residence. Among the prominent persons who paid their last respects were deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim, well-known litterateur and researcher Dr Vivek Rai, dramatist Kishore D Shetty, Umanath Kotian, Chandrahas Rai, Devadas Kapikad, Bhojaraj Vamanjoor, Vijaykumar Kodialbail, Seetharam Kulal, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, Raymond D'Souza, Fr Francis Gomes, Sai Krishna, Arvind Bolar, Richard Castelino, Janaki Brahmavar, and many others.
Speaking to daijiworld, Dr Vivek Rai said, "K N Tailor was the first person to introduce Tulu films in this region. He was technically skilled and produced nine films. He worked very hard to build Sri Ganesh Nataka Sabha. Despite being a tailor he spent everything he had for art, culture and cinema, and also supported younger artistes. He was awarded Tulu Sahitya Academy Award when I was its chairman in 1998. Moreover, he was also a humanitarian and down to earth person."
He also recalled his memories with K N Tailor and said he had spoken to him while ailing in the hospital too. "He told me that he had been to Tamil Nadu to learn the art of cinema," Dr Rai added.
Seetharam Kulal also expressed condolences and recalled the times he spent with K N Tailor and said that he was known for supporting new and young artistes in Tulu theatre and cinema.
The mortal remains were later taken to Nandigudde crematorium and the last rites were held.
