Left woman MLA threw things at Chandy: Congress

Thiruvananthapuram, March 19 (IANS): The Congress party on Thursday showed visuals of Left women legislator Jameela Prakasham throwing things at Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Finance Minister K.M. Mani in the assembly during the budget presentation ruckus on March 13.

Addressing reporters here at the Congress party headquarters, senior Congress legislator K. Sivadasan Nair, accused by Prakasham of sexually molesting her in the melee, showed several visuals to prove that no such act was committed by him.

"The visuals clearly show that her claim of my sexually assaulting her is false," said Nair.

"After a while she is seen throwing papers when Finance Minister K.M. Mani was reading the budget. Moreover, in her complaint to Speaker N. Sakthan on that day (March 13), she said I hit her with my knees and hands. When the Left opposition found their stock going down on account of the violence, these women legislators came out with fresh allegations of sexual assault," added Nair, whom Prakasham bit on hand in the melee.

On that day, the Left legislators threw the speaker's chair and uprooted and hurled the electronic equipment and his computer, causing a damage of Rs.5 lakh.

However, Leader of Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan in a letter to Speaker Sakthan on Thursday asked him to hand over the complaint of the five women Left legislators to the police for further action.

"Five treasury bench legislators in the melee on Friday physically attacked our five women legislators, and it was a clear violation of the rights of the women, and hence police should take action," said Achuthanandan's letter.
