Afghan provincial police chief killed


Kabul, March 19 (IANS): The police chief of the southern Afghanistan province of Uruzgan has been reportedly killed in a Taliban suicide bomb attack, an official here confirmed.

"I can confirm that the police chief of Uruzgan province Matihullah Khan has been killed and he is no more among us," acting provincial governor Amanullah Timori told Xinhua news agency on Thursday without giving more details.

Separately, Qari Yusuf Ahmadi, claiming to be a Taliban spokesman, contacted media outlets and said that a Taliban suicide bomber targeted the Uruzgan police chief in the capital city Kabul on Wednesday night, killing him on the spot.
