Foreign currency found in possession of Dubai-bound passenger

Mangaluru, Mar 20: The customs officials of the international airport here, in association with immigration officers, recovered 37,100 UAE Dhs from a Dubai-bound passenger on Thursday March 19, and arrested the person concerned.

The arrested person happens to be Jabbar Katlekad Ismail (32) in Kodagu district. He was to fly to Dubai by Air India Express flight on Thursday morning.

It is reported that the immigration officials found the foreign currency notes in the form of UAE dirhams in his luggage during verification. They immediately sounded the customs officials about the find. Customs officials said that Jabbar was arrested for trying to carry high value foreign currency notes out of the country, as the currency notes were not backed by proper documents of authorized money exchange transaction. They said that the value of the notes so recovered works out to Rs 6.47 lac.
