Mangaluru, Mar 20: "Some parents have wrong notions that competitions held in colleges do not go well with the educational atmosphere. Parents and students should know that there has to be various competitions in order to facilitate the overall development of students. The knowledge conducive to today's life can be obtained through college fests. The activities of fests fill life with enthusiasm," said J J Pinto, principal of Moodbidri S N Polytechnic.
He was speaking after inaugurating a two day M V Shetty Splash- 2015 cultural and technical fest held at Dr M V Shetty Engineering College, Thodar campus on Thursday, March 19.
"The present world is full of challenges. It is necessary for the students to be aware of the changes that are taking place around us and to have knowledge of culture and technology along with education," he said.
In her presidential address, Dr M V Shetty Memorial trustee Dr Divyanjali Shetty said that ‘Splash’ is a reflection of the intelligence of students and able guidance of the teachers.
Competitions such as music, dance, 'Robowar', rangoli, quiz, mehendi, painting, coding, gaming, collage, dumb charades, cooking, circuit breaker, treasure hunt, fashion show, paper presentation and photography were held on the occasion.
The ‘Young Bloods’ stunt group of Chikmagaluru captivated the audience with their jaw-dropping, breathtaking exhibition of biking skills.
Mangaluru DySP Vinay Gaonkar set in motion the special bike rides as part of Splash 2015 on the first day of celebrations on Thursday March 19. A helicopter model similar to the one that was shown in ‘Three Idiots’ film was flown in the sky for 15 minutes before the bike rides.
Members of ‘Young Bloods’ team in their first exhibition in Dakshina Kannada provided a thrilling feast for two hours. Team leader Poorna, members Yatheesh, Shadad, Madhu and Bilal showcased amazing bike stunts.
‘Young Bloods’ members hailing from Mangaluru Sandeep Ballal along with Keerthan DJ sang western songs created and composed by them. The songs were composed on bike adventures and sweet memories of college life.
The bike riders showcased freestyle stunts with the cooperation of ‘Five Cude Captor’ team members. Dr M V Shetty Engineering College principal Dr Sandeep J Nayak and College Estate officer Akshay Kumar were present.
Principal Dr Sandeep Nayak, mechanical division head Subraya Baliga were present.
