Kundapur, Mar 20: In a tragic incident that came to light on Friday March 20, a bride-to-be allegedly committed by jumping into a well at Paduvari near Byndoor here.

The deceased is Anasuya (28), daughter of Era Devadiga, a resident of Paduvari.

The third daughter of Era Devadiga, Anusuya's marriage was recently fixed with Chandra Devadiga of Naikanakatte. The engagement was held on October 12, 2014 at the girl's house, and wedding was scheduled for May 12 this year. Wedding preparations were going on in full swing.

Sources said that the families had discussed and decided upon ten sovereigns of gold along with Rs 90,000 as dowry, out of which Rs 10,000 was given recently as advance. Also Rs 30,000 was spent by the girl's family on the engagement, it is learnt.

As the wedding day drew nearer, the preparations gained momentum, and till Thursday March 19, Anusuya was said to be in good spirits, but since the afternoon of Thursday, she seemed to have become quiet. Sources said that her fiance had come to her house on Thursday and created a scene over some issue, and it is suspected that Anusuya, feeling depressed by this, allegedly committed suicide.

On Thursday night too, Anusuya did not talk to anybody and on early Friday morning she reportedly jumped into a well near her house. When she was not found at home in the morning, her family members searched for her and found her dead in the well.

Anusuya's family has alleged that her fiance Chandra was an alcoholic and mentally harassed her.

Byndoor police have registered a case.
