Bantwal: Tanker hits bike at BC Road - Bride-to-be dies

Bantwal, Mar 20: A young woman who was engaged to be married died in an accident at BC Road here on Friday March 20.

Deepthi Rai (24), daughter of Umesh Rai, a resident of Perla, was riding pillion with her fiance Vinod when a tanker hit their two-wheeler from the rear end.

The impact of the accident was such that Deepthi fell of the two-wheeler and the tanker moved over her. She was rushed to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Vinod, resident of Kasargod, and Deepthi were riding from Kasargod to Mangaluru via Vittal to visit Deepthi's father Umesh who works with Rai estate. When they reached near BC road junction, a speeding tanker hit their bike.

Vinod escaped with minor injuries.

The tanker driver has been taken into custody and a case has been registered in Bantwal town police station.

    My slogan for all pillion drivers : "EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED" and one must be ready to accept this reality when you are driving at your own risk.
    Our roads are full of surprises
    I fail to understand why they did not take other modes of transport (City Bus / KSRTC Bus / Private Express Buses etc,) for that matter considering the fact that they were travelling from far away. It was (and in the present day is) certainly not ideal to travel by a two-wheeler EVEN though you may be an experienced driver. All Indian drivers (especially the bigger vehicles) are a confident lot irrespective of possessing a license(s) or not. Poor Deepthi looked so charming and bubbly .. dying at such a young age at 24 sends a shiver down any hard hearted driver (male or female) who would in-the-near-future certainly dread to drive on horrible mis-managed Indian roads without a sequence of safety for that matter. I only pray to God to grant succour to Deepthi's family and eternal rest to her soul and give them tremendous fortitude and courage to her family to bear this irreparable loss. May the almighty always be with them to accept this hard fact of life gracefully.

    TANKER DRIVERS AND CITY BUS DRIVERS ARE YAMA DHOOTHS... One should be very careful while nearing these two vehicles. If you see TANKER drivers young boys either chewing tobacco or with mobile. CITY BUSES ARE ON BUS RACE ON THE ROAD.. SAVE US FROM THESE GHOONS..

    I disagree with you Mr. Pai. Even if the roads are made of International standards, such accidents will happen. They will happen because of Bad driving culture, violation of traffic rules, impatience, No lane driving and no respect for fellow drivers.

    Every driver thinks " THE BIGGER THE VEHICLE, THE MORE RIGHT HE HAS OVER THE ROAD"

    My view is in general and not to this specific incident.

    RIP! BC Road bus stand/junction is a very congested and dangerous spot especially for pedestrians and two wheelers!! It has been haphazardly designed and almost impossible for the sr. citizens and small children to navigate due to sudden vertical cutouts and steep slope! The bus stand should be at least 3x the size of the present one with a proper bus shelter, parking space etc. until then the common man will have to bear the dangers of using this place!! Cannot understand what stops the authorities in developing a brand new spacious bus stand away from the NH on which there is heavy plying of tankers and other HMVs day and night, for the benefit of the aam aadmi!! Jai Hind!!

    Tankers and Tippers are Yama dootas. Just because the owner of the Tanker-Tipper stipulates to the driver that he should reach the destination within time or else his Allowance will be cut, the drivers drive the vehicles rashly and speedily to reach the destination in time and cause such accident.
    If the Tanker-Tipper owners stop exploiting the drivers in such a way then the accidents will come down.

    All you people are responsible for this girl's death. This is just because you people don't take any serious action against these bus/lorry drivers such incidents keep repeating in & around our city.

    You will realize only when this same happens to your direct/close relatives. And this should happen soon.

    Now the only thing what you can do is "sanctioning people's money" as an aid to their family members. That's because the money is not from your personal pockets. Even though you do it, the girl's life will not come back. The parents have lost their loving daughter and you take free rides using Government vehicle.

    We will never ever elect people like you in the coming days, who can never work for the society/people's need.

    there should be written test passed before obtaining driving license,
    # Second #
    Eye test is compulsory all over the world.
    But in Mangalore NO EYE test for both license holder and license giver, only 'eye wash'!
    How long it will go on and take life of many innocents people who knows?
