Udupi, Mar 23: Thieves broke into an electronics wholesale store at Kinnimulky here and decamped with items worth Rs 8 lac. The incident came to light on Monday March 23.
The theft was reported at Sithara Enterprises owned by Prabhakar Kalmady.
It is learnt that the owner had locked the store on Saturday March 21 night and gone home. The theft was discovered on Monday when he came to open the store.
The thieves gained entry by breaking open the shutters and the main door using an axo blade, sources said.
As many as 700 pieces of electrical iron, three monitors, a gas stove, a laptop and a mobile phone, altogether worth Rs 8 lac, were stolen.
Udupi circle inspector Srikanth Rao and other officials arrived at the spot along with fingerprint experts and conducted investigation.
It is learnt that a watchman at an apartment in the vicinity had heard some noise during the night, but when he tried to find out the source of the noise, he could detect nothing.
A case has been registered in Udupi rural police station.
