There should be debate on anti-conversion law: Rajnath

New Delhi, Mar 23 (PTI): Pledging full protection to minorities, Home Minister Rajnath Singh today questioned the practice of conversions and advocated a debate on the need for an anti-conversion law.

He also wanted to know whether people cannot be served without indulging in conversions.

"There are sometimes rumours and controversies about 'Ghar Wapsi' and conversions. Why should there by any conversion at all?

"In other countries it is the minorities which ask for anti-conversion law. Here, we are only saying that there should be an anti-conversion law. There should be debate over it. We must think on bringing anti-conversion law. I humbly request all of you to think over it," Singh said.

He was addressing a conference of state minority commissions which was attended by representatives of various minority communities.

The Home Minister's remarks on conversions assume significance in the midst of controversy over anti-conversion campaign undertaken by Hindutva organisations and comments by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat regarding Mother Teresa.

"Why can't we serve the people without doing conversion. Those who want to serve the people should do so without engaged with conversion. Can't we find a solution to the problem.

"The issue was even raised in Parliament. Many people said government should do something about it. But I think society also has a role. Society too has responsibility. Can't we live without respecting each other's faith. What is the necessity of conversion. Can't a religion survive without involving in conversion," he said.

The Home Minister said he would like to request all state governments to take strongest possible action for the protection of minorities.

"I want to tell the whole country, even through law and order is a state subject, I will do everything for the protection of minority. I will go to any extent for this. I say this in the name of god," he said.

Shetty, I cant stop laughing when I read your comments. RSS and social work?? You must be joking. For your information I was in RSS for 15 years and I do not know any social work it did. If you're telling me, planning communal violence after the Shaka is a social work, I agree that there is some social work. As for as Gods are considered, how many Gods we have. I am sure there are no Asuras now and what our devataon ka sena is doing in Indralokh now?? Is Indra still waiting for another Asur while enjoying with Rambha, Urvashi and co?? Cow is sacred as well as Kalpvriksh which you cut to build your house. Do you know all the Dashavatar of Vishnu?? You should worship Fish, Tortoise, Pig, and Lion(half) more than what you worship cow because they are like Ram and Krishna (other avatars) How may cows you have to your own home? Have you ever thought how the poor farmers manage those cows, bullocks when they are not useful to them? Bring some cows to your house and take care of them for a year or so and come back to this forum to share your experience. Its easy to talk. Beef is eaten in India for centuries and now you realised that COW is your GOD. You have t have some logic when you put your case forward not just a name SHETTY. When I was in college I had a Bhat who eat beef and drink alcohol. It doesn't mean Hindus don't eat beef and just worship Cows, not all Hindus are like you. If you have respect, I don't have problem but don't ask others to respect . It is individuals choice.

    Please shun all religions.
Follow your heart\conscience and you have the education and a brain to know what is right and what is harmful. If you do right you will be rewarded. If you do wrong you will be punished as per laws of the land.
if there are no religions, then there will be absolute brotherliness as there will be no communal fights.
Government will make laws and these laws will be followed by all without division\reservations.
Anywhere we go we will be called as Indians only and not as RC\Christians\Sikhs\Hindus\Muslims etc etc.
I feel this is the only solution in sight for the acute problem we are experiencing and no debate\s will be solve this matter.

There is no harm for any human being whoever accepts the faith of Jesus Christ. You will have life here as well as in the eternal.

Mr Mathew.....We respect your views. Also we fully understand your hurt feelings when any place of worship is damaged........

But what about our feelings??......What we worship is being stolen & butchered.......How are we supposed to feel??......Burglary & idols are stolen on a daily basis from temples......Shall we start playing the communal card for all these??........Crime is a crime & the criminal must be dealt with as per law, but jumping to conclusions & turning everything communal is a dangerous trend......

In some of your comments your refer to "poisonous food" & "ditch" & insult the holiness of "cow urine"........how does it feel if we insult what you worship??......You may not agree with what we consider divine & we respect your view, but you have no right to insult our divinity in this country......

You mentioned your parents desisted from having beef...thats because of the proudness & respect which our elders had for the feelings of majority people in society........Even India under Mughals had banned cow slaughter because they knew the sentiments attached to the cow...But now what's happening??.....Open insults & butchery.......

Cow is considered divine as per our ancient culture & has a special worship status in all our festivals & events.....Cow has got both religious, medicinal & economic dimensions.........Now if you start questioning why is this belief, then we can start to question all what you believe in??....where it will lead??......India is a land of spirituality & where science ends spirituality starts........Outside of India we are not bothered, but here in India worship & killing can't go on side by side.......

Have you seen the hate literature published by missionaries, insulting all our gods....is this right??....Have you seen an hate literature published by RSS against any religion??....our problem is only with missionaries & jehadis not with any religion......We respect all & deserve to be respected in return & not deceived.....

"when jesus came there was no peace and what makes you think he will be back again, misguided belief"
    - You must make effort to read the Bible otherwise you will have a hodge-podge understanding of Christianity
    - Jesus Christ at his first coming came to fulfill the prophecies of the Old Testament (Old Covenant) and broke the shackles of sin that chained humans and separated them from God redeeming mankind and made salvation possible
    - At his second coming he will return gloriously to separate the righteous from the wicked and those who are servants of Satan establishing a new heaven and a new earth. There are many more events that take place written in The Apocalypse Of Saint John (Revelation).
    - Our belief is not misguided, it rests on the testimonies of human witnesses, prophecies of God himself which have come true as well as historical records. The Blessed Mother Mary in her apparitions has given miraculous signs and has also foretold prophecies that have also come true. How sure are you of your belief?

Beware when a government begins to legislate and control religion. It is a first step towards a "government" religion. Do we need a government to tell us whether or when we should convert? It is a personal matter and choice. Can politicians decide what religion is true or what specifies a conversion? Now we are increasingly bringing politics into religion.

Take the case of our twin district. Have any converts complained that they were forcibly converted or lured by money. It is not that they accept the Religion but accept the Word of God in the form of Holy Bible. Missionaries spread the Word of the Living God (Gospel) to one and call irrespective of Religion and Nation. Only few countries are now left where Missionaries have yet to cover 'not conversion but the Gospel'. The Lord expects the Gospel to be preached to each and every human being so that nobody will say that they did not hear the Holy Bible. And thus says the Gospel, Mathew Chapter 24:14 "And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

Mr. Shetty: Please remember this once for all, I don't belong to any political party in India.

I am few years older than Mr. Modi. In education, I need not have to tell that, but while talking about Economics-politics-history and religion, I am somewhat capable of standing neck and neck with most of the people.

Since I have watched your comments for a very long, I know that you are educated and have solid convictions about your faith. I respect people who are having solid conviction in their faith.

Mr. shetty, I am not only writing comments in the Daijiworld, but in many international news papers and I was not paid by anybody. So, whatever I feel as correct and straight, I write about that.

If I happened to see any street goon trying to destroy the worship place of the Hindus-Muslims-Buddhist or of any religion, I will call the police first and be a witness at the court standing firm against the culprit.

I do believe that human beings are the supreme creation of the Creator and every living thing on the earth is under the control of the human beings, and at their discretion can eat to survive.

By nature and through my religious conviction, I am greatly concerned with the most hurting sections of the humanity irrespective of their color-caste-sex-nationality-social status etc.

So, the debate with you will be in mutual respect. I have so many friends from Hindu-Muslim and other religions have traveled to few countries of the world especially in India, I have traveled through road and train, witnessed the very dark side of poverty face to face. Thus I have great concern for them. The greatest joy of my life is not driving the expensive cars or wearing the most expensive clothing, but seeing the smiling face of the poor people eating a belly full of meals. My children are fairly educated and I taught them to be humble-simple and compassionate.

    Now you got my picture.

spreading the gospel technically includes conversions but the question is are they done by choice, forced upon or just influenced?

yes, debate is a welcome sign before a legislation is considered.

Like the western world consider themselves as christian countries, with other faiths, there is no reason why India cannot be called hindu country with due respect to equality to all faiths, minority does not arise.

Mr. Shetty, Mangalore: I do respect you as the spokesperson for the anti-conversion issue and the cow slaughter. We are totally standing on two opposite zones, your personal opinion is greatly respected. You are creating very critical thoughts in my mind, which was never felt in my brain earlier. So, your open answer can solve some of my doubts.

In my life time, I have killed one duck in the U.S., and one chicken in India. My mother was a vegetarian, no meats at all. My father ate only chicken and mutton, and didn't allow me to eat beef while I was in India. When I ate the Hamburger with french fries for the first time, the first food which gave me a true desire to eat to survive, I didn't know that the round patty inside the bread was beef.

In India, 75% of the milk is from buffalo. Why you don't object the killing of the innocent buffalo?
Are they giving dangerous milk? Are they violent while milking? You don't like them because of its black color? Color discrimination is not pleasing to God, whether they are animals or human beings.

What about goats and sheep? They are not black in color, give milk as the cow does. Why you are not opposing the killing of goats and sheep?

What about chicken and duck? Innocent birds walking on the land and rarely fly give very high protean eggs every day, and finally killed and consumed. Why you are not protesting against the killing of the ducks and chicken?

I myself is not a big meat eater. So, let us do this way to stop this national religious friction. Make a national law, no killing of cows-bulls-buffalo-goats-sheep-camel-chicken-ducks etc which are giving anything for daily food consumption.

The Indians will be consuming only fruits-roots-leaves and nuts thus totally cancer free with healthy heart to live more than 100 years.

I would like to join such a campaign you must lead that campaign?

Many Daijiworld readers across the world would be landing in India to follow your leadership.

If no vegetables then kill lowest forms of life or those animal have less sense. Cow is very useful animal for for Hindus. Cow milk is equal to mother milk and his urine is also have medical power and even the cow dung we use in village for various purposes. No creation on this planet like to die. We don't have any right to kill animals becuase we can't give life to them.

"In Bible 6th Commandment says that "thou shalt not kill". Why Christians are still so cruel or asthatic towards Animal."
    - Have you read the Bible? Have you read the Book of Genesis? Do you know the story of Noah and the world wide flood?
    - After the flood God blesses Noah and allows him and his descendants to eat meat. Read Genesis 9:3 "And every thing that moveth and liveth shall be meat for you: even as the green herbs have I delivered them all to you:"
    - Of course if a person wants to eat vegetables, God will not punish them and neither will he punish a person for eating meat. But God will punish people who continue to live a life of sin, evil and wickedness.

"Cow is very useful animal for for Hindus"
    - Before you accuse Christians of cruelty, have you asked why Hindus are cruel to animals?
    - How can you take the milk that the cow gives to its calf for your consumption? That is the calf's milk which you are stealing. Moreover humans only need milk when they are infants, not when they are adults, unless you want to continue suckling till old age!
    - How can you take the dung, urine from the cow for feeding the plants? Why not use human dung, urine instead?

People must have the right to choose their religion. Its fundamental right. So if some hindus want to embrace other religion, they should be free to do so. same applies to reconversion. If ppl chose to get back to their original faith, its their right. Its amusing that some people are ok with conversion, but reconversion or ghar wapsi, is not ok with them!! what a bunch of hypocrites!! lol! and some people should not even bother to comment, as many countries give death penalty if they decide to leave religion! introspect first, what do you want!!

    - In the words of a wise daiji reader "Tum kare to chamatkaar, hum kare to balatkaar"
    - When Hindus leave to join another belief there are cries of forced conversions, luring and choicest accusations, the same is not true when Christians, Muslims, etc. become Hindus

This news of attacks towards the minority Christians is spreading all over the world. The newly formed Government of India is perhaps filled with the most cataract affected bunch of politicians!

One forest MP lady addressed the public as " non-Hindus as b....ds.

Another man from forest who is single exhorted that the ladies to produce 4 children to keep the Hinduism in strength.

Another latest declaration that the cow urine can heal cancer. Like the "ghar wapsi" and " Mother Teresa Debate" at the parliament, let the Parliament of India may start another debate "cancer cure cow urine miracle", thus let there be a cow urine drinking competition at the Parliament.

So far close to one year in ruling with a big majority, the BJP Government has done anything visible for the betterment of India? The budget cutting is specifically targeting the poorest sections of the society. Indeed, that will be a great opening to have divine blessing?????????

The nationwide attacks at the Churches and Christians-attacking Mother Teresa- Ghar vapsi-cow slaughter issue-Sun worship for the school children etc etc, any of them would be creating jobs and more prosperity for India?

With all these theocratic leaning attitude of the Government of India, how the foreigners would be feeling comfortable to invest in India?

Even the tourists are afraid to visit India which will be affecting the tourism industry. None of the political leaders will lose anything, but the ordinary people.

Three days before the New Delhi election, I wrote a brief comment in the Economic Times stating that the AAP will be getting far more seats than anticipated based on the way the political trend was moving.

That news was widely read, over 580 people commended on that news which was a record breaking event. I got the topmost scoring out of that many comments.

So, your false berating about my comment scoring is simply showing your jealousy. If I get more red scoring, I will be happy.

If I respect you, I don't have any right to interfere with your personal liberties like eating the food you choose-wearing the clothing you like and worshiping your deity of choice-getting educated in your field of choice etc etc.

If you are blindly eating a poisonous food, then it is my duty to warn you " my friend, you will die if you eat that dangerous food". If I see a big ditch at the road, it is my duty to warn the drivers with any warning possible to stop before getting into the ditch. That is because we love the humanity.

If you or anybody is trying to dictate other people in those personal liberties of life, that will not work at all in the 21st century.

My dear Indian brothers n sisters,
The above subject forced me to write our olden days living. At my home many Hindu men and women used to come to work on daily in the fields and we also join them along, after that my mother used to give them morning kanji and also some times lunch and we all sit together and eat.Not only that my mother used to give them her good clothes and ornaments during thier festival to wear (off course they return once the festival/wedding over).During our festival all these people used to come to church area and roam and they rejoin us after our church service. we used to join them for their festivals and roam and come back but not a single day my mother didn't ask them or forced them to CONVERT, and for those who think that CONVERSION then for me it is all false bcoz till today those people do come to work and we sit together to have our breakfast or lunch or even dinner, we never left them or separated.
My DAD used to tell us always that GOD created only two main thing in this world that is MALE AND FEMALE, other things we created for our own benefits.
SO, GETTING ANTI CONVERSION LAW will not change the mindset or character of that person, first of all tell those people who create all issues to RESPECT THE HUMAN BEING WHICH CREATED BY GOD.
Tell them the basics 'LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOUR'.

BJP will never bring Anti-Conversion Law. If they bring, then they wont have any other reason to win majority votes.
Earlier they used Ram temple to play with Hindu Sentiments against muslims, but after Supreme court order, that point is sidelined.
Similarly, Conversion is used to spread hatred against Christians. Once, Anti-Conversion law is bought, they will find some other reason.

Another reason they will not implement because, all their Ghar wapsi programs will also impacted and also Hare Rama Hare Krishna, Ramkrishna mission donations from foreign countries to various ashrams like Baba Ramdev, Amrithamathe in Kerala, AOL will be Impacted.

Our constitution provides freedom to practice any religion and not to covert anyone through coercion and inducements. Suddenly many people have become constitutional experts to reject comments of the home minister. This law is very much required to reduce hatred and foster mutual respect for all religions. The only tricky issue that needs to be addressed is if the law could be misused to persecute minorities. Given the corrupt system we have, fear of minorities is legitimate. So in order to pass such a law all minorities will raise above their religion and do what is good for this county. A case in example is Austria which has 90% roman catholic population. They recently brought a law to ban all foreign funds for local muslim organization and religious institutions. The law also said that only legitimate version of Quran is the one in German and everything else is illegal. On the looks of it appears communal and anti-minority. No media covered . No television debates. But, there is one this. They did not bring this law for any communal reasons but did what is good for this country. Local minorities accepted it because they felt that this is the only way they can leave peacefully with respect. So unless every one puts constitution above religious interests, instability will continue.

Don't know about Austrian Law. But bear in mind that Muslims in Austria are recent arrivals. They are essentially foreigners.

But the Muslims and Christians in India have always been local people.

Just because RSS/BJP/VHP wants to treat them as foreigners, they don't become foreigners.

This is why the minorities have to keep pointing out the rights based on the Constitution - which are conveniently ignored by the RSS/BJP/VHP.

When Mr. Morarji Desai was in power as the PM of India, he was united with O.P. Thyagi to introduce an anti-conversion bill, and within days, Mr. Morarji's political career was vanished for ever.

What exactly is an anti-conversion law? If this law is passed then no one can convert to any other religion? Which in itself sounds stupid because it transgresses on the fundamental right i.e, The Right to Freedom of Religion, covered in Articles 25–28, provides religious freedom to all citizens and ensures a secular state in India.

    Dear without name shetty, Mangalore,
Accepting another’s faith which is not of his is a human right.
This has happened ever since the world began.
At least read the History. Now what debate RajNut wanted.

    Dear friend,

If you grew up in Mangaluru, can you please tell the readers here how many Shettys, Poojaries abd Bhats have now become D'Souzas, Pereiraa and Barbozas?

Believe me there are no conversions. But vested interests (read BJP/RSS/VHP) want to keep repeating the myth.

But for service, just look around in Mangaluru. You will find is plenty of service by the Christians.

Of course, if the BJP/RSS admits that this is the truth, how can they create a frenzy in their followers?

So, they will always talk about conversions to create fear and panic against Christians, and in the bargain, build their vote bank. That is the truth (it is up to you to accept is as sweet truth or bitter truth).

Are you getting the services, only if you convert to Christianity....Grow up and come out of well and four walls..... Some uses are required for Goondagiri and the bent tails can not be straightened.....

SK Bhai......Again you are diverting the issue.....our problem is with fraud missionaries, not service oriented organizations.......why are you diverting blame on St Aloyssius college??......Do as much service as society needs, but don't convert.....

Wherever we have studied, we have been taught to respect all beliefs & not to insult any beliefs........but also not be a mute spectator when your beliefs are openly insulted.....

If all is crystal clear, then why not we have a strict law....what is there to fear for if your backyard is clean??.....

Dear SK, information given by you is 100 percent false. No hindu woman was raped in Gujrat riots whereas hundreds of muslim women were tortured, raped and killed by sangh parivar goondas and no action is still taken on this terrorists. Amit Shah, who lead the goondas in the killing is honoured by bjp for his dadagiri. For bjp slaughtering animal is more punishable that killing human being. I am sure, India will not progress as far as this goonda party is in the center which is working for benefit of only industrialists and rich people.

Dear Shaji, do not get emotional. I quoted the govt figures.....Even the death figures are wrong ???
The hindu women were raped by their own community men....Those goonda beasts were waiting for the PREY......so they have fully utilised. relax
