Katheria calls for better management at Taj Mahal

Agra, March 23 (IANS): Minister of State for Human Resource Development (HRD) Ram Shankar Katheria on Monday urged Minister of State for Tourism Mahesh Sharma to introduce reforms in crowd management, sale of tickets and security system at the famed Taj Mahal in Agra.

Katheria suggested that video surveillance of the world heritage site and the nearby residential area of Taj Ganj should be done through closed-circuit cameras with a unit monitoring movements of people in and out of the complex.

He suggested installing turnstile gates at entrances to ensure that only one person enters at a time.

The decision to introduce no value tickets for children below 15 years of age and those who enter for prayers on Friday should be implemented immediately to keep track of the total number of visitors to the Taj Mahal.

He suggested reducing the entrance ticket rates during non-peak hours.
