Samsung unveils Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge in India


New Delhi, March 23 (IANS): Samsung Electronics on Monday launched in India its 4G-enabled handsets Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, which will be available from April 10.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 is priced at Rs.49,900 (32GB), Rs.55,900 (64GB) and Rs.61,900 (128GB), while Galaxy S6 edge is available at a price of Rs.58,900 (32GB), Rs.64,900 (64GB) and Rs.70,900 (128GB).

The research and development (R&D) team in India has been responsible for the development of several features of S6 device, said H.C. Hong, president and chief executive officer, Samsung India Electronics, adding that it could be considered as “torch bearer for Make in India”.

“India is among the select 20 countries chosen by Samsung for the first phase launch of Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge, and rightly so given the Indian R&D team’s valuable contribution in making these the world’s most advanced smartphones,” he added.

Samsung has three R&D centres in India that employ more than 10,000 people.

The pre-booking for the two handsets will start from Monday (March 23), Asim Warsi, vice president, marketing, mobile & IT at Samsung India said.

The Galaxy S6 has a 5.1-inch display with 16 megapixel (MP) rear and 5 MP front camera, an octacore processor and runs on Android 5.0 operating system.

The Galaxy S6 also has similar features with variation in battery and display. It is the the world's only smartphone which has dual curved screen.
