London, Jul 14: Former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has signed a two-year contract with Brentford, marking his return to the Premier League after brief spells in Saudi Arabia and the Netherlands. The 35-year-old England international joins the club on a free transfer following his departure from Ajax.
Henderson, a veteran of 84 England caps, is set to fill the leadership void left by Christian Norgaard, who recently moved to Arsenal. According to reports, Brentford finalized the deal last week, but the announcement was delayed at Henderson's request out of respect for his former teammate Diogo Jota, who recently passed away.
Brentford head coach Keith Andrews expressed confidence in the signing, saying, “When we became aware of Jordan’s availability, it was a simple decision. He’s still incredibly fit and motivated, and with several senior players leaving, his leadership is vital.”

The move marks Henderson’s third Premier League club after previous stints with Sunderland and Liverpool. At Sunderland, he broke into the top flight as a teenager before making a high-profile move to Liverpool, where he spent 12 seasons, made 492 appearances, and lifted seven major trophies including the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup. He succeeded Steven Gerrard as captain in 2015 and went on to become one of Liverpool’s most decorated skippers.
During his career, Henderson has also earned individual recognition, including the FWA Footballer of the Year (2019–20) and selection in the PFA Team of the Year. On the international stage, he featured in three World Cups and three European Championships, playing key roles in England’s deep tournament runs.
In 2021, Henderson was appointed an MBE for his contributions to football and charity work.
His arrival at Brentford brings experience, leadership, and a winning mentality to a squad undergoing significant transition.
