Bengaluru: Govt neglecting Christians' welfare, says BJP

Bengaluru, Mar 25 (DHNS): The BJP has accused the Congress government of neglecting the welfare of Christians by not utilising the budgetary funds.

Participating in a discussion on the budget proposals for the year 2015-16 in the Assembly, Leader of the Opposition Shettar said that while Rs 40 crore had been earmarked for the welfare of Christians in the previous budget (2014-15), only Rs 16.51 crore had been utilised so far.

Home Minister K J George accused Shettar of giving wrong information to the House. “You are not concerned about development. You are only after publicity,” charged George.

The minister said he was the chairman of the Christian Development Council and all programmes for the welfare of the community were being implemented effectively.

BJP members, including Umesh Katti and Govind Karjol, asked the minister to furnish the statistics he claimed to have and table it in the House.

Thanks to BJP for having the raised the issue of unspent Christian Minority Funds. Lets not squabble over the issue, if the Home Minister has facts and figures then let him table the same. But we the Christian community know very well that barring a few beneficiaries the rest are made to run from pillar to post. Its high time that the Congress realize that they cannot take the christian community for a ride and remember that there is an election every five years. What are our Christian elected / nominated MLAs doing. If they could only raise their voice in the house and personally take interest in releasing the earmarked funds for the christian community a lot of goodwill could be generated. It is still not too late to do something for the betterment of the christian community. Are you listening Mr. George, Mr. John, Mr. Lobo & Ms Nero ? At least Mr. Ivan raises his voice in the upper house, why do you not emulate him ?

I agree with you in totality. Let these people appease as much as they want as "tongue does not have a bone" so they will keep blabbering to their hearts content. We are not surprised if leaders tell lies, that is in their blood. We have classical cases of leaders who spread venom against our community but on the other hand their families are trained in Christian-run institutions without being PARTIAL. The daughter of Raj Thackeray of Maharashtra Nav Nirman Sena - a political outfit of the erstwhile Shiv Sena (not sure whether she still studies there) was educated in Canossa Convent in Mahim in Bombay a few years ago. This fellow (Raj Thackeray) instead of being grateful to our religious institution(s) had the cheek to abuse the guardians of Catholic institutions a few years ago when he slapped one of a senior teacher for non-admission in schools. He was retaliating against us for non- admission of his Marathi speaking people. Without any conditions as far as I remember, they were later admitted in other neighboring schools within the Bombay metropolis. Their kith and kin are hopefully leading decent lives now without even whispering a word of thanks for all that they received. What can you expect from such
third-rated people. Even though we are minority, our heart is big. We hardly have any Christian industrialists, but there are several who have been helped by us and are successful in small self-sustaining businesses unlike other industrialists who adopt
a care-a-damn-attitude. But despite this short-coming, we are not biased and yet we go out to reach and help others who look at our religion in a suspicious manner. This is exactly what Christ taught us. We do not take any help, loan or funds to help them out but are charitable in reaching out to others and trying to mitigate the sufferings of the neglected brethren. That is what makes us special but yet we are looked upon as if we have created a fault.

The funds given to Christian welfare was a peanut just to brain wash and please remember Christians are wise not blind and fools like the PRO’s of BJP.

How much expenditure was incurred for the churches attacked and to those churches to rehabilitate enormous amount was spent by the church. It is our own money. Government has not given any money. Yet those fundoo communal’s have destroyed/vandalized our worship places.

You are right in saying - "This is like the Satan reading the Bible."

But the question is who is SATAN? Is it Sheep with wolf cover or WOLF with SHEEP cover?

I do agree, BJP has made many blunders in Karnataka against Christians. During 2008 church attack, they have never condemned the attack but then the Honourable CM Mr Yeddirappa openly supported the attackers.

BUT after that, it was BJP in Karnataka has sanctioned separate funds for Christians. That is a very good act done by BJP.

BJP lost, minority community support due to the fringe groups consistent attack on minority and BJP party members are directly participating themselves in the fringe group rallies.

Let us keep behind our emotions, prejuidice mind set and try to evaluate the real situations. One will come to know the reality.

Hope the discrimination, division based on caste, religion come to an end.

Vikas G, i dont agree with your statement..all Christians dont vote for Congress and all Hindus for BJP..i know several manglorean christians who even campaigned for BJP in maharastra elections..Religion is very sensitive issue which Congress first started to use for vote..Congress, makes all efforts to instill negativity & project every crime as attack on minorities..Moreover, for Congress there is only one section in minority minority clause(Najma Heftulla told openly)..Yes, Christians most benefited during NDA/BJP rule..whether its removing draconian laws, set up of development board, allocation fund..But negative propaganda was always had upper hand..also they should know that why Congress didnt shown any courage to send its ministers,PMs to ISRAEL till date..what harm ISRAEL did to INDIA!!..Its just fear of vote bank & to appease a section..then who is communal!!..they should know that MODI will be the first PM in indian history who will visit ISRAEL & I am sure he will pray at Holy city JERUSALEM for every indians good..

Shettar's words of concern are most welcome and required during these critical times when Christian brothers in India are feeling that they are being left out. The state governments are not seriously putting any efforts to contain the attacks on Christian prayer centres .
These kinds of mature words from BJP leaders may encourage Hindu youths to work in unison with christians to stop attacks on churches by certain groups to defame Modi.
Shettar has truly held up BJPs secular ideology.

Very Nice BJP Leaders. What a artificial concern of your's to the Christian Community. If you are so much concerned about Christian Community Welfare, then what you were all doing when stones were pelted in Churches of Panir, Navi Mumbai and Church Vandalism and school vandalism in New Delhi? Where is the report for the investigation report for all these incidents? Why our Honourable Prime Minister is not instructing the leaders of the concerned state and departments to take strict action against such incidents and the persons involved in it? First learn your responsibilities and then worry about other things. Stop infusing hatred among the people based on religion, caste, gender etc.
Let the People of India live in peace and harmony.

Even if a Christian wants to convert our church will not stop him.Since you do not have any other better things to do, do some social work for the upliftment of your majority, keep them happy and then see the difference.
