Mangaluru, Mar 25: Policemen of Konaje station near here have taken two persons into custody for assaulting BJP Harekala village committee president and his wife. The attack had happened near Harekala Dabbeli on Sunday March 22.

The arrested persons have been identified as Azhar (29) and Sarfuddin (28) from Baitar Dabbeli in Harekala. Reportedly, BJP Harekala village committee president, Jayaram Gatti (55), and his wife, Gulabi, were attacked by the duo.

Jayaram Gatti said that he was engaged in farm work in his garden on March 22, during which he took a brief break and went to a corner of the garden for relieving himself. At that time, the above persons, who live close by, started a fight and attacked him, it is gathered. When Gulabi came to the spot to intervene, she was also hit.

Both Gatti and his wife had got admitted into a private hospital in Deralakatte. Konaje police, who have registered the case and arrested two persons, are continuing with investigation.
