Mangaluru: Security guard of bank dies after gun fires accidentally

Mangaluru, Mar 26: The security guard of a bank at Kodialbail here died after his gun misfired while on duty.

The incident took place at Kotak Mahindra Bank on Thursday March 26.

The deceased has been identified as Tammayya (55) from Madikeri, who was employed as a security guard at the Bank.

Eyewitnesses said that he was climbing the staircase to go to the toilet on the first floor of the Bank, when the double barrel rifle in his hand accidentally fired. The bullet went straigtht into his neck, killing him on the spot.

Kadri police rushed to the spot and investigations are on. The forensic team also arrived.

Tammayya was staying at Padil here while his family stays in Madikeri. He has two daughters, both of whom are married. He had been working in the bank for the last three years, and had taken leave for five months sometime back, sources said.

DCP Vishnuwardhan who arrived at the spot said that this was the second time Tammayya had accidentally fired his gun, but luckily no one was injured in the previous incident.

Tammayya's son-in-law Satish, who stays in Suratkal, said that he rushed to the spot soon after he saw the news in media. He further said that his father-in-law had no health issues or other problems whatsoever.

Kadri police have registered a case.
