Indian theatre productions to be staged in Slovenia


Ljubljana, March 27 (IANS): Two theatre productions from India will be staged for the first time in a week-long theatre festival in the Balkan nation of Slovenia.

The two plays, entitled "Comedy About the End of the World" directed by Avijit Dutt and "Take Me in Your Hands" directed by Dipika Roy are being staged by Yatrik theatre group of New Delhi and Banyan Tree Productions of Mumbai in the 45th edition of the "Week of Slovenian Drama" to be held in the Preseren Theatre in the city of Kranj near Ljubljana from March 27 to April 7.

They are English versions of award-winning works by Evald Flisar, globally renowned Slovene polymath poet, dramatist, novelist, editor, essayist and litterateur, the Indian embassy said in a statement. His works have been translated into 34 languages including Bengali, Malay, Nepali, Hindi, Indonesian, Turkish, Greek, Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, Czech, Albanian, Lithuanian, Icelandic, Russian, English, German, Italian, and Spanish.

His drama "Shakuntala" has been staged in Bengali in Kolkata by Ganakrishti theatre group. The participation of Yatrik theatre group, which will also stage their play in Austria and Italy, is being sponsored by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), New Delhi

The Week of Slovenian Drama is the central festival of Slovenian plays, organised annually with the support of the ministry of culture of Slovenia and the municipality of Kranj.
