Eight Taliban militants killed in Afghanistan

Kabul, March 27 (Xinhua): Eight Taliban militants were killed and 10 others, including three policemen, sustained injuries in a security operation in Afghanistan's Badakhshan province on Friday, an official said.

"Security forces launched an operation in Akhshira village of Wardoj district early Friday morning and killed eight Taliban rebels," Xinhua news agency quoted district Governor Dawlat Mohammad Khawar as telling reporters.

Shadowy district governor of Taliban in Wardoj, Mullah Abid, was arrested during the crackdown, the official said.

Ten more people, including seven insurgents and three police personnel, sustained injuries during the operation, the official added.
