Mangaluru, Mar 29: In a complaint filed in Mulky police station on Saturday March 28, parents of an eighth standard student of a school in Karnad near Mulky said that their son was abducted from his hostel and assaulted near Dargah Road here.
It is said that a gang comprising about 20 Muslim youth abducted the boy from his hostel and beat him up later. The gang members were angry about the fact that he had become friendly with a girl from his class and used to converse with her often.
The boy in question, Manjunath, hails from Uppinangady in Puttur taluk. He stays in the hostel meant for backward classes here and attends school at Karnad.
The police have registered a case and begun investigation into the incident.
