Mangaluru: Visa fraud - accused arrested, in judicial custody

Mangaluru, Mar 29: On Saturday March 28, Purushottam (27) from Nelyady in Puttur taluk was arrested in connection with complaint of visa fraud. Reportedly, he had misled people by advertising through his website about employment opportunities in the Gulf region and some other countries. Those who approached for jobs, were fleeced of huge amounts of money, without doing anything as far as procuring jobs for them is concerned, it is said.

He was arrested on the basis of a complaint filed by Rakesh from Kottara Chowki in the city. Rakesh had said that Purushottam has been functioning through a firm located at Balmatta named Shineway Manpower Consultancy since the last two years. Purushottam also regularly published in his website about job offers abroad, the complainant added.

It is said that job seekers from the twin-districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, apart from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and other places had approached him for jobs. They had submitted their passports for necessary processing. Even after lapse of considerable period of time, he neither provided them jobs, nor refunded their money. In the recent past, it is said, he sent back their respective passports to their addresses.

It is believed that he had collected about Rs 10 lac from 25 to 30 people by promising them work visas in certain countries. The police in the meanwhile, said that there has been an increase in the number of such cases, and requested people not to get trapped by such job promises.

On being produced in the court, the accused was remanded to judicial custody. Bunder police have continued with investigation.
