Video mapping steals the show at IIT-Roorkee fest

Roorkee (Uttarakhand), March 29 (IANS): A visual illusion display by a Portuguese video mapping duo, in collaboration with world famous disc jockey David Guetta, stole the show at the onging Cognizance festival in IIT-Roorkee.

Guillaume Pierre Antoine de Oliveria and Eduardo Rui Barbosa da Cunha from the company Oskar & Gaspar, which specialises in video mapping, 3D projection and stage design, have worked with David Guetta in making the video "I can only imagine".

“The technology is based on video mapping technology. It is a new way to create video projections that we apply on buildings and cars. We always look to apply this technology in new ways,” said de Oliveria.

The duo showcased their work by displaying the optical simulations projected on huge buildings which became their screens.

Faces of the students who won the contest of first liking the Facebook page of Oskar & Gaspar were used as screens which came alive with the visual magic.

Applying the face mapping technology, numerous expressions were created like rotating the face divided into parts, implanting different kinds of eyes, changing colours like a chameleon and many more.

Oskar and Gaspar have worked with Audi and Mercedes Benz at their exhibitions.

“Create 3D animations and you match perfectly digital animations on to a car. You can create some optical illusions, you can give the sensation that the car is changing the colours, the car is on the road, it is moving, it is braking. You can create everything you want and project on the car,” added de Oliveria.

“Among all the events, activities and exhibitions, the video mapping show by the company Oskar & Gaspar saw the highest footfall,” said Prasanth Goyal, a second year electrical engineering student at IIT-Roorkee.
