UN chief arrives in Baghdad

Baghdad, March 30 (IANS): UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon arrived in Baghdad on Monday for talks with top Iraqi leaders.

"The UN secretary-general arrived in Baghdad this morning on an official visit to Iraq," the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) said.

An Iraqi foreign ministry official told Xinhua news agency that Ban is expected to meet Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi and other top officials to discuss political and security developments in the country.

Ban previously visited Iraq on January 13, 2014, when he met leaders to discuss the turmoil in Iraq's Anbar province and regional issues such as the crisis in Syria.
