Six from Bhatkal, man from Kasargod stranded in strife-torn Yemen

Bhatkal, Mar 30: Six persons including three children from two families of Bhatkal are among the 500-plus people from Karnataka stranded in strife-torn Yemen, where war is currently going on against the rebel Shia Houthi group.

This information was relayed over the phone by Mohammed Yunus Shabandri, who has been staying in Yemen's Aden with his family from several years.

Shabandri has urged the Karnakata chief minister to put pressure on the Indian government to ensure safety and security of all the Kannadigas stranded in Yemen.

Most of the 3,500 odd Indians in Yemen are in Sanaa, the capital of Yemen, and about 500 in Aden. Shabandri said that while the Indian government has been rescuing its nationals in Sanaa, no measures have been taken to ensure security of Indians in Aden.

"We do not know when our houses would be bombed. We are witnessing horrible scenes right in front of our eyes. We are living under a shadow of fear. We are deafened by the sound of exploding bombs and we do not know if we will ever reunite with our families back home. Hence the government should immediately make arrangements to evacuate us from this place and take us back home," he urged.

Shabandri lives in Aden with his wife and three children. Shaique Raknuddin, who is also from Bhatkal, is also with him. They recently contacted their families in Bhatkal to say that they were safe. "But the situation is such that anything could happen any time, so we have to be rescued at the earliest," he said.

Stephan Kayyar
Daijiworld Media Network – Kasargod (EP)

Kasargod, Mar 30: Over 60 Keralites are stranded in war-hit Yemen, among whom is 34-year-old Jinto Joseph from Odayanchal here.

It is learnt that seven men including Jinto are staying in a room at Aden in Yemen without food and water for the last one week.

Jinto has been employed with a hotel in Aden for the last five years. He had visited his hometown two years ago. He is unable to come out of the room as the situation is highly volatile. They have been unable to get food and water.

Jinto has contacted his family over the phone and said that the hotel where he is employed is locked down and he is unable to leave the room.

Jinto is the son of Joseph and Traisyamma, residents of Kodoth in Kasargod. His wife Jincy and one-and-a-half-year-old daughter are here. His family has been praying for his safe return and has urged the government to take all possible measures to bring him back soon.

The present situation if dragged- on may become worse than Iraq's invasion of Kuwait & the liberation war. In addition lots of countries are involved with the crises of ISIS.

it's a fact that many friendly countries are siding/supporting SA but Western countries including USA are busy striking a nuclear deal with Iran.
Things do not seem to balanced.

That means only 7 Indians left in Yemen anymore ????

No prizes for guessing why the above 2 cases highlighted by the media and what's the intentions.

Anyway its a wise decision to move out of war zone without any advice, on top of that Govt has given instruction to move out in advance, but still some people gamble with life. Anyways Central govt should do all it can to evacuate Indians our of troubled stricken Yemen.

    vellano1, Mumbai,

Having gone through this type of evacuation during Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990....I can tell you this cant be pleasant...You will know about this pain only if you go through this...I can't explain this here...leaving a country you settled for decades with a single bag...all your savings become zero overnight...I cant explain here...

I can understand your frustration about few Indians sitting in gulf countries and abusing their own country and Government is sad to watch....these semi-literates trying to preach democracy to others is very funny...

Overall I think your comments are not fair here...whatever may be provocation...when they are going through tough time...

I hope all are evacuated safely...

langools, I have closely watched Kuwait evacuation, from Mumbai! ..lot many came with whatever they keep ttheir hand on! -) few became rich overnite and built bungalows! ... VP Singh and Gujral went and dealt with situation very well. Gujral met Saddam who was best friend of India, overlooking USA and got these evacuated! and then once big part of these evacuated, they helped US to refuel fighter jets in India! .... Sunnis here agitated!..govt fell... Chandrashekar continued the same principle. People like Swamy and all in cabinet (it was 49 member, minutets minority govt from congress outside support) they got all indians in kuwait with no harm!... but they continued to help US fighter jets! ...would be surprised, Rajiv Gandhi pulled support, for helping USA refuel, and going against Sadddam! ..he pulled support.. so much for his minority appeasement!...

so, government girte india mein, jhagde kahin ho.. muslim knows how to help congress! when they get help from non congressi government!

yes, oomen chandy and Siddaramayya must go and evacuate them and send them to some Dubai or other country, where they can safely live!

recent incidence, after Modi has come, this India, is very unsafe for Minorities, women, liberals etc! So, I dont find a reason, why they are asking to come back here!

ps: sorry for the sarcasm.. but when I see thousands who sit in gulf and comment against Modi chaiwala feku's cow governance, I feel all this are better off in such countries! Govt had given them enough warning to evacuate for 1 month in advance! if you cared, you cld have taken a ticket and come back... but you go and give your passport to your employer there and get stranded! namma 'undeveloped' oorud kullareg nikaleg, asahya aapundu! aik adeg popaar! first toole aata, war torn coutnries are not safe, why risk life? moolu battd pira, BJPg/Modig nerpinaane aapundu
