Prof Pascal Walter D’Sa retires from St Mary’s College Shirva

Udupi, Mar 30: The management, principal, staff and students of St Mary’s college organised a farewell programme for Prof Pascal Walter D’Sa who served St Mary’s College Shirva for 35 years in various capacities.

Hailing from Bantwal, he joined St Mary’s College in 1980 as lecturer, served as the head of the department of commerce, student welfare officer, coordinator of Alumni association, director of mid-day meal scheme and NCC officer of the college.

Speaking on the occasion, III B Com student Darshan Shetty said, “Prof Pascal D’Sa is an inspiring teacher who understands each and every student. His guidance will be the beacon light in the lives of all the students. His services as the NCC officer is quite commendable, his retirement is only as per the service records, but he will never retire from the hearts of the students”.

Dr Ganesh Bhat, a colleague in the department of commerce remembered the good old early days spent with Prof Pascal D’Sa. He explained PASCAL giving each word a meaning. He said P refers to politeness, A refers to affectionate, S refers to sincerity, C refers to caring, A means accommodative, L means Loyal. He also remembered the 22 Blood Donation camps organised by him in the college, collecting more than 1,800 units of blood for the good of the society in association with the Red Cross Unit.

Dr John Clarence Miranda, principal of Pompei College, said, “Prof Pascal D’Sa is a disciplinarian and helpful to everyone. You all miss his voice on the corridor”.

The programme was presided over by Fr Stany Tauro, correspondent of St Mary’s and Don Bosco Institutions in Shirva. He said that the management will recognise the services of Prof Pascal D’Sa and will ever remain grateful to him for serving 35 long years at St Mary’s College. He also said Prof Pascal has not created more assets but his students are real asset to him.

Welcoming the guests on the occasion, Prof Rajan VN, the principal said, “Prof Pascal D’Sa is one of the most admired and influential teachers of the college. The way he taught, the knowledge he shared, the care he has taken and the love he has shown to the students and institution are commendable”.

Wilson D’Souza, parish council vice-president, Norbert Machado, the managing council member, Devadas Hebbar, president of old students association, Prof Thomas GM Pompei college, Akash Shivaram Poojary, the student council president, faculty members teaching and administrative of UG and PG, and the large number of students were present for the programme. Prof Gopalakrishna Samaga read out the Scroll of Honour, Petricia D’Sa of III B.Com compered the programme.
