Udupi, Mar 31: Shobha Karandlaje , MP, Udupi-Chikmagaluru, organized a press meet on Monday March 30 at V S Acharya auditorium, Rajathadri, Manipal.

Addressing media persons on the Kasturi Rangan report, she said that only 15 days remain to submit this to the Supreme Court. “The process is moving slowly and we did not get any information from 1,576 villages about the process and it was partly completed. The committee has to collect village wise public opinion and should make a report,” she said and urged the government to take quick action.

Karandlaje further said referring to the problems of village panchayat that nearly 2 lac applications are pending for issuing licenses for new constructions in the state. “The objection order of November 11, 2014, of Gowramma of Narikombu, has created a crisis among other 5,629 village panchayats. The monsoon season is also nearing,” she added.

“The High Court order is to prepare a bye-law, but the state is refusing. If the state administration has will power, it needs a day for complete preparation. The CM has to respect the wishes of the panchayat members because the village panchayat election is not so far. The problem of APL and BPL ration cards still exists in the state. The promise of making the BPL card into Anthyodaya still remains a promise,” said Karandlaje.

Regarding the poor tax collection, she alleged that the government had failed to collect tax completely. “The commercial tax, stamps, and duties tax amount is very poor. The excise duty tax of Rs 3.5 crore has been looted. The development work has stopped. The government itself agreed that it has done 55 percent of work successfully,” she said and added that she was very excited about the data of development of this fiscal year.

Karandlaje condemned the attitude of Home Minister K J George and said that he had failed to exercise control over the police department and the cases of violence were increasing day by day. “The public is losing confidence in the present government. Nearly Rs 4,000 crore tax in sand mining has been leaked out,” she said alleging that many children of ministers were involved in the sand mafia.

Answering the question on road construction work she said that 56 km of road work was been completed of the 65 km stretch from Hejamady to Kundapur. Seven bridges have been completed out of nine in the district. By the end of April, Udyavar bridge will be completed.

Karandlaje stressed that she will not allow installation of tollgates till 95 percent of the road work is completed. A total of 34 small and converted bridges will be completed soon.

Finally, she urged the submission of a detailed report to the green bench of the Supreme Court. “The CM should not indulge in revenge politics while re-opening cases which were filed during the BJP rule,” she added.
