Mangaluru, Apr 1: In an incident which occurred on the night of Monday March 30 near Urwa in the city, a gang hunted for the murder-accused in a case, and vandalized the house on not finding him. The attacking gang reportedly was led by the father of the victim in the said murder case.
A gang comprising Jagga alias Talwar Jagga, Mahesh, Keertan, Deekshit, Rajesh and Mohit barged into the compound of a house owned by Vidya and destroyed several buckets kept in front of the house with swords, iron rods, wooden sticks etc. The gang members then forced themselves into the house and demanded to know the whereabouts of a person named Abhilash. It is said that the gang also went on a demolition spree with the weapons in their hands, destroying window glasses.
Vidya's brother, Arun, an auto rickshaw driver who resides in the neighbourhood, came to the spot on hearing the commotion and asked the gang to stop acting tough and leave. It is said that the gang members swung their swords at him, but Arun succeeded in escaping but the palm of his right hand was injured.
The loss due to the destruction of window panes has been estimated at Rs 15,000. It is said that Abhilash along with some other people had attacked and killed Varun, son of Jagga, sometime back. The policemen feel that the gang wanted to avenge the killing of Varun.
On the basis of a complaint filed by Arun, Urwa police have registered a case. Investigations are continuing.
